I saw these containers at the vet in ER a couple of weeks ago. I just now got around to googling them.

Has anyone seen or used them for nanos yet?

You don’t want to hike a mile through the blackberries to search for a nano in the cedar swamp?! 😆

Yes, I have found a couple of those. I remember the first one I saw in MN, GC19XQ4, though the owner called it a “bullet” in his writeup, it is what you have pictured, and the same size.

I also saw one stuck into the side of a Gazebo, somewhere in Illinois, GC14ZYC. I have not seen one in Wisconsin, that I recall right now.

From what I can tell, they have issues with not being watertight, stripping the threads easily, poorly thought out placements, and being owned by geocachers who dont mind loosing a few friends. 🙂

Yes I have… the darn thing rusted shut and couldn’t be opened after a winter. I was bummed!! Then I replaced it and the tree got bushwhacked. I saw and bought mine at Petco!!

As long as you keep it in an ammo can where it can stay dry and rust free.

These containers are all over Racine and Kenosha. And yes, they suffer from all the issues described above.

    Good to know.
I’m always on the lookout for cheap, creative, durable containers, and I thought these might fit the bill.

I had one of those stuck into the end of a pinecone in one of my caches called NEMESIS #5 The cone of silence.

That reminds me. I gave that container to The CinemaBoxers, who in turn sent it out to the east coast to be placed. I never got the GC number for that cache. Looks like a need to make a call.

I do not have one that small. The one I had was just less than an inch long. And Zuma DID find it. Remember Z-man? Put some camo duck tap and some clear fingernail polish and you should be good to go. They work great in worm holes in tree bark. I got mine a pharmacy for about $6. It’s for Nitro pills and you put it on your key chain. Wally World also had some a little bit bigger. about 2 inches long and the with of a nickle or so. Called a fob container I think.

I was talking to flydad a couple months ago and he ran into one of these with a magnet on it in a knot hole of a pine tree.

Had to bring your own nail to get it out of the hole.

That’s one way to get to use that rating criteria of “need special equipment”!
