I was laying in bed with a fever, bleeding badly from my mouth, with a severe infection from having 2 wisdom teeth pulled the day before. I was half in a daze watching everything unfold that morning on television. It was like in was in a dream state and was imagining it all. It all seemed so unreal and unbelievable at the time. When I first saw and heard about the first plane hitting the first tower, I was thinking “what idiot accidentally did that?”, but then we watched as the next one came in and it was obvious that this was no accident. Thanks allowing us to share.
09/11/2011 at 11:48 pm #1953135I was driving to LaCrosse for training for work. It was a very foggy start to the day when I left. I remember I rented a car and they upgraded me to an SUV “for free”. I only heard bits and pieces on the radio on my drive about a plane crash in New York but that was all I heard. Then when I arrived I was told the class was cancelled because it was being held on the top floor of the US Bank building and US Bank buildings across the US closed.
So I went across the street to the hotel I was booked at and sat in the lobby with many others and watched the news all day. They had put extra tv’s in the lobby so everyone could watch the news. I checked into the hotel anyway and watched the news the whole evening and the next morning in my room and could not believe what had happened. Then drove back home the next day.
09/12/2011 at 12:17 am #1953136I was off of work on September 11, 2001. I was a bit tired because I had gone out with some friends the night before to watch the Monday night football game. My two-month-old daughter had gotten up at 2:00am, so I was excited that she was sleeping in a little bit that morning. I had seen my wife off to work and I thought I would read a book (The Bear and the Dragon by Tom Clancy) to keep quiet in hopes that she would sleep longer.
She started to stir at about 8:30, so I got a bottle together and thought I would give her a little breakfast. I flipped on the television to watch Sportcenter, but my cable always returned to channel 4. I did not have a spare hand so I watched the Today show. I sat there with my daughter and watched the events unfold live.
I called my wife and she said she had heard about the attacks. She came home for lunch and we both kind of just stared at the television for the rest of the day.
09/12/2011 at 1:38 am #1953137I dropped my 1-1/2 year old at daycare. I went to the hospital to take care of some paperwork. I saw the first tower burning while in the doctors lounge. I then went to visit with my dad who was in town for a few days visiting with his wife’s sister. When I got to where he was staying, I asked if they had the TV on and they did not. They turned it on and we watched the events unfold. I also called my wife whose birthday it was and who was at work that day and let her know as well what had happened.
09/12/2011 at 2:57 am #1953138I was working on the landscaping at a new house still under construction so there were no TV’s around, just radios. When the second plane hit everyone knew something was wrong and work stopped and everyoner was listening to the radio. Vicki was at home taking care of 4 year old Emma and 2 year old Even while their mom (our daughter Becky) was in the hospital with pregnancy problems. This inceent and the JFK assasination are two events that I will never forget where I was at the time.
09/12/2011 at 3:25 am #1953139I was at school, teaching. I don’t remember what I taught my class in the first 50 minutes of the day, but at 8:50 I took them to Phy Ed class, and stopped inthe office to check my mail box. The secretary told me to turn on the TV when I got back to the room. I was just getting my head wrapped around what I was seeing, when the second plane crashed into the World Trade Center. When I picked up my class from Phy Ed, I brought them back to the classroom and spent the rest of the morning trying to explain what had happened and what was happening.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
09/12/2011 at 3:57 am #1953140I just got done working overnight and was going to punch out and saw the second plane hit the tower in the break room. Went home and watch it the rest of the day.
09/12/2011 at 4:28 am #1953141I remember this day well. It was a Tuesday and I was just about to leave a meeting at the church on the corner of Commercial, Tayco, Nicolet and Washington in Menasha (St. Thomas). I was standing in the office talking with the secretary when she received a phone call.
Would you believe that I have never actually seen any video of the planes crashing into the twin towers? I never felt that I wanted to see that happening over and over and over again. Just the fact that it had happened and that so many had died, struck deep with me.

09/12/2011 at 1:59 pm #1953142I am very appreciative for you to share your stories. It helps me when I am sad and scared or worried or confused about something, I have a friend to talk to. I posted this in the Goocaching Forums and had a couple rude posts, but then some very nice posts. I did not intend for it to be anything bad. Just wanted it to bring all closer as one nation, one community, one family. No matter where you are this is a day that has impacted everyone some way some how. I am proud to be a American. God Bless.
With this said, the random winner is: 2nd Time Around, please email me and send me your mailing address.
Again Thank You all who participated in my first contest.
Have a wonderful day.
~Valarie10/20/2011 at 11:56 pm #1953143to late for the contest but here it is. i was working at kewaunee nuclear power plant. i was outside the fence working in the north yard when they came and told us about the first plane. at this point it was not a big deal. planes have hit the empire state building after becoming lost in the fog before. then they told us about the second plane. all of a sudden they doubled the guard, brought out guard dogs, blocked roads, placed barricades and barbed wire around the plant. everyones security cards were pulled and admittance into the plant was stopped. i had the only cell phone in our work crew and i called the wife at home to see what was going on. she turned on the tv and was relaying info to me and in turn, i to the crew. about 5 minutes in she says……i think the building just collapsed.
we (2 carpoolers and i) finished our shift, not knowing much of what was going on and headed back home to sturgeon bay. not being able to wait to get home to learn more, we stopped at a bar in algoma to see the news. needless to say, we couldn’t leave the tv and sat in utter sadness drowning our sorrows in cheap beer and tequila. was a very sad and late evening before we made it back to S.B.A Time To Remember GC34BDB
