Hey gang-
I was wondering if anybody has ever done or set up a group event that involved a corn maze? I can think of a few in the Milwaukee area (Stacey Farms, one on Hwy 50, another on Hwy 41).
Would anybody be interested if I looked into hosting an event of this type? Of course, this would not occur until late summer/early Fall.
One of my ideas involves having several teams hiding caches and having the others find them. The team with the quickest finds wins…
Anyway, thought I’d shoot this out there.

06/03/2007 at 2:13 am #1875408I’ve never gone through a corn maze, but my family and I talk about doing it every year. We would come if you hosted such an event!
(Although, I’m pretty sure I heard last year that Stacey Farms closed down or something. I’m sure there are other places around. You just need to find one that would go along with the geocaching part.)
06/03/2007 at 3:20 am #1875409The saying goes: If you plan it, they will come. Keep in mind cachers may not respond until the last minute, but you’ll have a good turn-out. Date dependent, I’ll come.

That would explain why their site is down. 🙁 That’s too bad.
Corn mazes are pretty cool, but can get frustrating if you get lost. One concern would be a bouncing GPS signal, as the stalks can get pretty tall!
06/03/2007 at 3:02 pm #1875411Definitely a good time to turn on the Tracks feature on our GPSr. It would be fun to see which ways we went.
06/03/2007 at 4:28 pm #1875412We’ll be there for sure.
06/03/2007 at 5:30 pm #1875413I always wanted to do a corn maze, but I could never get anyone else to go with me… and what fun is something like that by yourself? 😥
06/03/2007 at 10:36 pm #1875414Drats! Fairwyn Farms in Burlington is not doing a maze this year. They always had a HUGE maze too. That’s strike #2. 😥
06/03/2007 at 10:50 pm #1875415I think I found our winner in Colgate (NW of Menomonee Falls). http://www.bassesfarms.com/cornmaze.html The next closest one would have been Deerfield, WI (between Madison and Milwaukee). I’ll try to get more info and perhaps set a tentative date on gc.com.
06/04/2007 at 12:13 am #1875416I may be talked into this as well; tracking with a GPS would make it sooooo easy (I hope)
I wonder if we could talk them into hosting a geocache on their property; it would no doubt draw lots of interest each year!06/04/2007 at 12:36 am #1875417@greendale4x4 wrote:

Hey! Why stop at one? Maybe we can decide on different dates for each one and hit both. 😛

Not a bad idea. I just submitted an Event Cache. The guidelines require no more than 3 months out. I’ll let you know if/when it gets posted.
I’m also thinking of getting Geocoins made for the event. Anybody have suggestions? How much do these guys cost?

06/04/2007 at 4:49 am #1875419😆 Oh, and if you can avoid the weekend of October 12-14th (I think that might be too early for corn mazes anyways), I’d appreciate it. I’ll be at the Rocky Mountain Hedgehog Show in Denver.
06/04/2007 at 10:15 am #1875420OK, the word is we need to work out the details here on the WGA forums before it can be published. Please spread the word, as I’m guessing a lot of people don’t know about these forums.
I think the first we should do is have some sort of informal meeting with a few people and throw some ideas around. I can get in touch with the farm sometime this month.
Who: Geocachers of any age!
What: Corn Maze Event
Where: Basses Farms (Colgate, WI) http://www.bassesfarms.com/cornmaze.html
N 43° 11.599 W 088° 11.799
When: Sept. 15, 2007 (flexible)
Why: To have fun and set up some mini caching events.
How: I need volunteers and the word spread.
Cost: Depends. I’d like it to be free for people, but that would require donations. Perhaps we can seek sponsors for donations or giveaways.
Please log your thoughts and ideas on this forum.

06/04/2007 at 2:28 pm #1875421One thing to be aware of is that the Picnic Committee is looking to move the date of the picnic from the traditional August date to one in September. We are looking at either the 15th or the 22nd.
(Hopefully, the final decision will be made soon.)
