Thanks to all who hunted, nominated and voted for Glow In The Dark 2 for Cache Of The Month. Of all of the caches I have hidden, it was this one that I had put the most planning, effort, work and money into.

    Some other COTM thoughts:
    1. Are we still using the “Blue Ribbon” graphic to denote COTM? I haven’t seen it on the last couple of caches.

    2. Although the web site states that nominating your own cache is a no no, how about voting for you own cache? (I didn’t, but I thought about it)

    3. Has anybody given any consideration to the cache that was the 1st runner-up? Maybe a different graphic, maybe just a mention on the COTM page for that month?

    4. Has anybody hunted all of the COTM caches? Do you generally make a point to hunt the COTM caches?

    Just curious.

Congrats! In response to #1, it looks like an image is available for you to use.

#2 – I wouldn’t vote for my own cache. I think the idea is for recognition for what finders think is the best cache.

#3 – Not a bad idea; at least a mention of the other caches that had been nominated.

#4 – Sigh. I wish I had the time to get to all the COTMs. If I were in the area, I’d certainly make a point to do a COTM over another, however.

Yes, the cotm graphics are still being awarded. I had also noticed that many winners are not bothering to put them on their caches.

I’ll try and get the blue ribbon info emailed out to you tomorrow. Been real busy at work. Congrats!

I just added the ribbon to my page tonight. Prior to this post I had no idea where to get the image. I just used a little common sense when I looked at the address when I clicked on dave’s post and I figured it out.

I aggree that you shouldn’t vote for your own cache. Although I really, really wanted to when my cache was nominated. It was quite an honor to win and I would have felt pretty cheezy knowing that I cast the winning vote.

    Just my humble opinion.

Congrats to you for “Glow in the dark 2” that is an awesome cache.

Congrats again to Mr. Tie! This was simply an outstanding cache! When we’re back in the area, we’ll be doing this one again. It is just an excellent cache. Before we were even done with the cache, we were discussing locations to bring a glow in the dark to Green Bay. The time, effort, and money put into the cache are appreciated by these cachers! Congratulations! Kudos! Well Done!

We just added the October ribbon to our page. Thanks to those of you who know how to write the correct computer lingo!

Is there a Glow in the Dark 3 floating around the mind of Mr. Tie?

You mean ‘Buy_The_Tie’ and ‘Should’ve Bought Him The Tie’ are the same person/team??? I was thinking ‘Buy_The_Tie’ was such a lame rip-off name! It all makes sense now. Congrats on the COTM honor…it is well deserved. I know that we’ll probably make an effort to do more past (and future) COTMs now.

By the way, I don’t see a problem with voting for yourself, but what would you write in the comment section? “Man, am I awesome!” But, the president votes in the presidential election, doesn’t he? I’m sure G.W. doesn’t toss his vote Ralph Nader’s way!

Congrats on COTM. It is well deserved and one that I revisited with my team members BS&T.

A passing thought on voting for your own cache. There would be nothing preventing everyone who has ever placed an active cache from nominating it, there by flooding the list of nominees. This is because COTM is not limited to a having been placed that month. COTM could be one that has been around for a few years and recently discovered by a batch of new cachers who think highly of it and cast enough votes to make an oldie the COTM.

I suppose a cache owner could vote for thiers AFTER it has been nominated. That change would have to be kicked around by the high priced help and the general population. I’m sure we will be discussing it shortly.

I suppose if it were allowed, everyone would probably just vote for their own nominated cache and it would be a wash…

…except for caches which are nominated that don’t know that COTM even exists. They’d be a vote down because they would never know to go in and vote for their own. Perhaps some sort of “Congratulations, $_YOUR_CACHE_NAME_HERE has been nominated for COTM on the WGA site! Clicky clicky here to see!” email could be sent by the admin when a cache is nominated?

Question for Jeremy… I assume you keep track of who’s voted each month? Of the total pool of voters ever, if you do a SELECT DISTINCT on that, what percentage of the total membership has actually ever voted for a COTM?
