Can you rule out that when the party placed the 2nd container, that the 1st container maybe really was missing?
In April, one of my caches was reported as missing (a cache with only one logical hiding spot) … I went out to check on it and it was missing … so I replaced the container. Then a week or two later, I started getting logs of people finding 2 containers in the same spot. Sure enough, I went back to find the original container was now on top of the replacement container. So obviously some muggler find the thing and took, but later returned it.
I know of one other cache where this same thing happened, but it is pretty rare.
07/02/2008 at 2:17 am #1891467But to Hemi’s original point, it is not cool to replace a cache like was done in the case of Barefoot Children in the Rain. I found that one not so long ago, and it was not a hard find at all.
Want to hear something funny? ANother cacher logged a DNF on this same cache…
Another thing to point out is that many cachers leave there’s disabled for long periods of time and then eventually remedy the situation. I would gather that not everyone “plays the game” as often as some of us others do. In areas where there a lots to choose from, this is not really that big a deal. At some point though they should be updating the community on the status if it goes longer than a couple months…

Given that it had recent finds, the cache owner is actively playing the game, and the folks who replaced it could not have looked long, it probably would have been better not to replace it, and just log the DNF. Just my opinion.
zumaHeck, they didn’t even have to log the DNF if they were reluctant to do so. Just move on to the next cache and forget about this one, or come back later to check for it again. No rule that you HAVE to log a DNF, but we do because maybe it will help the cache owner or future seekers of a cache.
07/02/2008 at 2:52 pm #1891469I think it’s in the best interest of the “caching community” to log all DNFs … BUT to also include an explanation … as “DNF because it started raining after I look for 2 minutes” is different than “DNF and I look for 2 hours with a group of 30 people” … it’s a series of DNF’s that should tell you something.
07/02/2008 at 7:37 pm #1891470Thanks for all your replies. The cache in question was indeed Barefoot Children in the Rain. It was not a long term Disabled cache. All that was needed was a new log put into it. I did not get to it right away because when I first heard about it, it was right before a family vacation. I then had some minor health issues that seemingly too precedence over replacing a piece of paper in a log that someone could just write over the top of another name.(i would never bother to check it) When I got the chance this came up right before I ran out to check on it.
As for recent antics on this cache, There was a recent DNF because they couldn’t find the container I just stated that I removed. Which brings up another question of how often you read the recent logs? But I guess it depends on if you are using paper printouts or always updating the palm for every cache run.
In the end I am taking Zuma’s advice and just let folks play the game their way and turn up the Buffett.

LOL. Somehow, I knew you would.
I just turn up Neil Young real loud when something bugs me, and forget about whatever it was that was bugging me. But then again, I turn up Neil real loud when I am happy too, so if you see me listening to Neil turned up, it really could be either something is bugging me, or all is good. In the end it doesnt really matter.
BTW, I have every Neil Young album/CD ever published, but my choice of late has been an audience recording of the concert that Robin and I went to in Chicago last year. Fantastic recording, totally illegal, but great music, and I dont think Neil would really care too much.

I am sure if Neil found out he would just crank up the Zuma.
I don’t have all the Buffett recording yet. But after my second visit to Margaritaville Orlando, I have almost every baseball cap that they sell. Sheesh that money goes quickly.
