So for the past few days, I’ve been putting off archiving “House of Brew and search for the Holy Grail”. This was the first cache our family placed, and we spent weeks planning it.

It appears Chili was right, and the site we picked for the final of the cache was a risky one. The final did, however last a year.

I’m afraid that if I replace the ammo box at the final (and find a new grail to put in it), the same highschool kids will pillage and plunder the box again. There’s only one good spot to hide the cache, and they know about it now. Also, some kids are building quite a large tree fort (Like on Benji: off the leash) just a few feet from the site.

What should I do? I didn’t want to be walking around picking up my ammo box waypoints yesterday (on 9/11) once I found the cache was gone, so they are still there. Waypoint 1. Waypoint 2.
    No Waypoint 3.

    Here’s some thoughts:

    1) Get over it. Remove the cache completely. Get on with your life.
    2) Find a way to insert a waypoint marker permantly at the old final site. Put a new final loggable box somewhere else.
    3) Don’t put an ammo box at the final. Put a camo’d small container (big enough for a miniture grail and log book….see if that lasts)

    Anyone have any suggestions?
Anyone else this sentimental about their first placed cache?
We also have adopted State of Mind AZ which was our first find. That one will also be a difficult cache to put to sleep.

Am I crazy? Am I too emotionaly for this sport? Help me by sharing stories of your caches-be-gone.

Tough call there. I’ve been in that position myself. Funny thing is last Tuesday, I did some geocaching right near where WP#1 was located, but since I was pressed for time, never got started on it. For selfish reasons, I would like to see the cache still active (so I can go for it next time), but if the risk of plundering is high I can understand if it’s not. I do like the idea of a ‘smaller’ cache container hidden in another locale nearby..one that local kids can’t get to.

    Good luck.

The Holy Grail is a Milwaukee classic.
To archive it would be a shame.
At the time we found the cache, we assumed it was a miracle that the final lasted in that location. Making it a camo hide in the same location would have its issues too since you really do not want to be sifting and sorting in that particular location.

I would think that a new final location would be in the proper spirit of things. Finding one as interesting would be a problem but perhaps an interesting camo hide nearby would be suitable.

    Goodluck with whatever you decide.

Bummer.. Haven’t gotten down to this one yet.. I hope it gets replaced/moved. This is one of those caches that are better just because of a great theme, even before starting the hunt.

I have placed a bid on 2 new holy grails.
I am now determined to make this cache last another year.
