Are any of you cycle riders interested in getting together this weekend for a ride?
We could plan a caching trip, or just a ride around town.
Either Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
08/28/2002 at 5:33 pm #1750156I would be in if we would go Sunday… I’m not sure yet if I’ll be available Saturday. Caching would be nice, but we should try to pick caches that aren’t too hard and have decent parking areas (don’t want to get the bike dirty by driving on a muddy road). State fee areas would be OK, but I (and others that go) would probably have to pay the daily rate. I’ll let you be in charge of planning the route and caches we hit if we do go Brian… try to keep it under 300 or 400 miles.
Also, if we can’t round up enough people for this weekend, I would be game for going another weekend this fall.
08/29/2002 at 2:30 am #1750157I think I could talk other half into another weekend. He got offered double time for Sunday though.
08/29/2002 at 4:14 am #1750158I might be able to ride any of the days. I do have one limiting problem because Pat is still recuperating from her surgery. Let me know the plans. I should be able to do some riding and caching.

Waukesha08/29/2002 at 5:33 pm #1750159Does anyone have any caches they would like to hit?
preferably some that are secluded and don’t require park admission fees. It may look suspicious if a pack of motorcycles arrives at a park, the riders dismount and walk into the woods
A ride through the rolling Kettle Moraine sounds appealing to me.
08/30/2002 at 2:24 am #1750160I’ve been trying to get up to the CATO CAR Crash. I’ve cleaned up most things in the northern kettle moraine but wouldn’t mind hitting some over again. Also, wouldn’t mind passing by Lizard Mounds if anyone wants to pick those two up. I promise to keep my hints to myself.

Waukesha08/30/2002 at 3:54 pm #1750161Good plan Steve. Cato Car Crash cache would make a good final destination… I’ve already found it, but I wouldn’t mind going again.
I’ve also hit most of the northern Kettle Moraine caches, but it’s still a great area to drive through.
Other caches we could hit on the way:
– Lizard Breath (GC8185)
– Rebecca’s Cache (GC817D)
– Glacial Blue Cache (GC4818) (I’ve found this one)
– Waubedonia Park Adventure (GC8346)
– Calumet Cache (GC52F0)
– any of the caches in Manitowoc
– and some Lil Otter virtual caches (these are everywhere!)Personally, I would rather only make a few stops for geocaches, instead of stopping every 10 miles.
I figure it would be about 200-250 miles round trip to Cato and back… the distance would depend on how many back roads we took. (The more the better, especially since the interstates will be nuts because of the holiday.) Is this distance OK with you Brian? And since you’ll be the ride captain on this trip, I’ll let you plan out the route and the caches we’ll hit.
Next question is, where and when do we want to meet on Sunday? (Or Saturday, since my plans to visit my sister fell through…)
08/30/2002 at 4:53 pm #1750162These are some great ideas for caches. I’ve always wanted to hit Cato Car Crash. Sunday would be a better day for me if we want to head that far out. I have to work 12 hrs tonight (until 3AM). So I will probably be sleeping in until 11:00 AM Saturday. We would need to get an earlier start to head up to Manitowoc.
It would be nice to hit a cache half way there so we can get off and stretch. I’m riding a 400cc Honda and it’s not Interstate cruiser . I will have to top off the tank about every 75 miles. Hence, we shouldn’t be too far in the boonies. We could also stop for lunch or dinner since were looking at a 6hr + trip.
Lots of possible routes. If we really want scenic, we could ride out to Waukesha. Shoot “J” up to 60. Hop on 45 to Kewaskum. Take 28 through the Kettle moraine N/E to Sheboygan area, then head up towards Manitowoc. Perhaps a more direct route on the way home.
I’ve already found Glacial Blue also. I would like to hit Lizard Breath, but since Steve placed it and Jeremy found it, we can pass that one.
Would Sunday morning be ok with everyone?
That will also give us some more time to plan the caches and route. If not, I could do Saturday after 12P[This message has been edited by GrouseTales (edited 08-30-2002).]
08/30/2002 at 5:24 pm #1750163Yes, Sunday morning works fine for me. It sounds like you have a pretty good route planned out. I wouldn’t mind jumping on some county roads, especially through the Kettle Moraine.
I haven’t found ‘Lizard Breath’ yet. Plus Steve has his member’s only ‘Rebecca’s Cache’ in the same park.
Only 75 miles? You could always bring a rubber hose and siphon some gas out of my 5 gallon tank. Or just bring a rope and tow your cycle behind Steve’s GoldWing.

At freeway speeds I’m pushing 7500 RPM. I can go about 75-80 miles before I need to turn the cock to reserve. I have’t found out how far I can go on “Reserve”, and I dont plan to I think the siphon hose and tow rope would be a good idea.
Lets plan on Lizard breath and Rebecca’s cache then. I thought you found them already J.

I know this was pretty short notice. If there is enough interest, perhaps we can plan an additional ride in a couple weeks.
09/01/2002 at 4:15 am #1750168Let me know when you want to go, and hopefully it will be a weekend that he doesn’t work.
09/02/2002 at 3:22 am #1750169Well, we had beautiful weather and a beautiful ride. We met at 9:00 AM and headed towards Manitowoc. We rounded off the day with 8 caches. We drove approximately 240 miles round trip and got back around 8PM.
Here are the caches we hit:
- Rebecca’s Cache
- Lizard Breath
- Silver Creek Music Cache
- Country corner
- Cato Car Crash
- Abe and his animals
- Stair-master 2002
- Waubedonia Park Adventure.
Here is a photo we took while at Cato Car Crash. Pictured are Jeremy (left), Brian (center), and Steve (right).
Thanks for coming along guys, I had a great time.
If anyone is interested in planning another ride in a couple weeks, let me know.
