I didn’t mean them as a suggestion but as an example. It still would be helpful to know how many people show up for an event like this as it may dictate where it could be held.

Around 200, give or take. Any location we use would have to have parking, grills and picnic tables, and restroom facilities for that many people. Waukesha would be nice for those of us here in SE WI, but we should aim for something more central for those who live further away.

That is good information, and I hear what you are saying about someplace central for people coming from different regions. Another club I belong to tries to pick spot based upon concentration of member as well. But then they don’t have 200 members in the whole club. Thanks!

    😉 Only 46 votes as of 6/6/07?

    Is everyone still in hibernation?

    Wake up and vote 😀

Again, I’d like it to be held during the “summer when there’s no school since he campout is/was held during the school year.” Even though the event is only one day, some of us like to make a weekend out of event and hunt the permanent caches in the area and extended area as well.

😥 Can we change our vote? Professor has his high school class reunion on the day we picked!

Waukesha County Parks would be most willing to host a Geocaching event. They have seen the success with the City of Waukesha JanBoree Geocaching and have asked The Tapps & I if we would plan and organize an event. The discussions have included offering free admission to all the county parks the day of the event. I just thought I would put that out there as a possibility for the WGA picnic site ..

Has the idea of having maybe 2 picnics ever been discussed? One for the southern part of the state and one for the northern part.

At this point, the committee has narrowed the location down to a few spots, and you should probably expect location and date announced soon.

Waukesha Parks would be a good spot for future years though, so good to mention it now. Are any of the parks large enough, and also have a reservable shelter?

A lot of things have been discussed. Right now, the history of the WGA is to have 2 annual events, the sping campout and the fall picnic.

One of the proposals that I would like to work on more is regional camping events, throughout the summer, much like what I saw in England. There, they have an event every 2 or 3 weeks in different parts of the country, so travelers get to see parts they might not otherwise, and there is something local for those who dont prefer to travel.

For example, we could have a camping event in Hayward, and one in Wausau, and one in Sturgeon Bay, one in Bong, etc.

i am not sure how much interest there is in this, but do hope to work on getting it going, perhaps small scale this year, and if successful, more of them next year.

I don’t know if the picnic committee has decided on a location yet but I do have a suggestion. How about the Brown County Reforestation Camp (NEW Zoo)? What better way to reinforce the recent decision of the County NOT to charge us to place caches than to bring a boost to the local economy?

Well it doesnt look good right now. I Liked having the kids off too. I threw my vote in for the 18 of aug. They really enjoyed it last year. That is also my last vacation until the blackout is over for vacations at work at the end of october.

Time to make x-mas boxes now. busy busy busy.
