    About me

I’m a 47 year old father of two daughters, grandfather of one, living in Rochester, WI. An engineer and financial manager by trade, I currently work as an IT manager for SC Johnson in Racine. Additionally I have served on a few other nonprofit boards. We spend most of our caching time in SE Wisconsin, but are beginning to expand our horizons to other parts of the state. Since we started geocaching, we have met all sorts of great, helpful people. There is something about this sport that brings out the best in people.

    Regarding the WGA Board

I have to admit to being very surprised at being nominated for the board. By the time I had received the nomination email, I had already nominated many other people, including several of the current candidates. That said, I am happy to serve if elected and have a few areas that I am passionate about:

    1. Access – I believe we need to actively reach out to the WDNR and revisit the current SNA policy. This policy was put in place before the current notification/approval process was implemented. The notification policy should make it easier for land managers to control the cache placement process on SNA properties.

    2. Breadth of the Organization – For me, the statewide nature of the WGA is what makes it great. When you look at some of our nearby states, the best organizations are those with statewide coverage, such as Minnesota and Michigan. Those states who have fragmented, regional coverage (Indiana, Illinois) have been less successful in achieving goals for their members. It is essential that we encourage participation by our members in the less populated regions of the state, at all levels, including the board. I’m not sure how exactly how we should achieve this, but it is important that we find a way. Perhaps the WGA should sponsor a few smaller regional events along with our 2 large annual events.

    3. Communication with local law enforcement – We are getting to the point where some communication with local law enforcement is needed. I think the WGA can help by developing a standard presentation (hands on, showing several examples of geocaches of all sizes) and coordinating the effort with membership. I think this is just too important to leave to chance, and its too big for it to happen without coordination.
