    Greetings fellow geocachers,

For those who don’t know me, I am David Cantrell (CacheNoTrace). I guess I should tell you all a lil about myself. I am a happily married (will be 15 years October 24th) male, father of two awesome kids, son is a Star Scout, 13 years old and daughter is a Bronze Venture Scout, 15 years old. Currently I went back to school a few years ago and am enrolled full time at the University of Wisconsin, Marathon County majoring in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History and Social Sciences. Next year (fall), I will be finishing up my bachelors degree at UWSP.

I have been geocaching since April of 2009. Geocaching quite frankly is something I really enjoy. This hobby has allowed me to travel to places I would never have found. It is also a real nice stress reliever! Throughout the years, I have met some awesome fellow cachers whom I would have never have met if it wasn’t for geocaching. I look forward to meeting new faces while I am at events and out on the trail.

So what makes me qualified to be a board member for WGA? In the bylaws, I will quote the third point under the purposes, “Promote the “Cache In Trash Out” and “Leave No Trace” programs to help in the maintenance of parks and trail systems.” As you may have known, I am currently the Wisconsin State Advocate for Leave No Trace. With that said, I have an extensive knowledge with Leave No Trace and direct contact with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. If elected, my goal as a board member would be to improve our education program with Leave No Trace and to help WGA to meet its Purpose in promoting Leave No Trace.

Thank you for reading this and I hope to serve you as board member for WGA.

    David Cantrell

Typically people don’t run for a office just to run, some might argue that there are those that run just to say “me too”, but generally speaking I believe people run for a reason and thats because they feel they can make a difference or want a change.

What is one thing you want to make a difference in or change in regards to the wga?

    RSplash,

I am glad you asked! As stated above in our WGA’s Mission statement, one of the goals is to promote CITO and Leave No Trace Programs within our state. I feel that education at various events like CITO’s, GEO101 courses, and WGA Campouts and pic nics would be a great avenue to pursue. I feel that with my direct contact with Leave No Trace, I can be a huge asset in this. With that said, my main goal would be to help aid in the improvement of education in regards with Leave No Trace. I would also help bring in another partner in outdoor ethics education, and that is Tread Lightly. For those who do not know what Tread Lightly is, they are the same as LNT except that they deal directly with mechanize vechicles, like snowmobiles, 4 wheelers, and boats. Geocaching as a hobby I truly enjoy, and we have the power to either promote a positive or negative impression on what we do. Through education on outdoor ethics, the impression we can have on our general population will be a good one.

Thanks RSplah for that awesome question!

If elected, you will someday come to a conclusion. Upon that ending, what do you envision others will say about you David Cantrell (Cache No Trace) about your composite work in the WGA?

    Mathman,

I envision that others will say that I fullfilled my main goal that I have created a perminant bond between WGA and Leave No Trace. This bond would help be the driving force of WGA fullfilling their objective to support and promote Leave No Trace (see bylaws). I feel that as State Advocate for Leave No Trace and as Master Educator, I am the best person who can make this happen.
