Hello, my name is Dawn and I cache under the name of rawevil. My husband Scott and I first started caching in July of 2013. We are originally from Milwaukee and relocated to Oshkosh area about 15 years ago. Our mentors, zeeman_clan, introduced us to this hobby one hot afternoon. There were a couple of caches within walking distance of our houses so we decided to take a walk with them to see what all this geocaching talk was about. The first cache was a bust because it was missing. The second cache we went to look for was there, but we had no idea what we were looking for under that bridge. zeeman_clan found it and some of the things they were telling us started to make sense but we really didn’t think that crawling under a bridge looking for a magnetic key holder was really something we wanted to do. However, we signed up for a basic geocaching membership.

We were going on a mini vacation to St. Germain the following week and they gave us a list of 4 caches that were near our cabin along with an old GPS that you had to manually enter coordinates. So we gave it a shot when we got up north. And oh my, we found a couple that were on the list by ourselves! And those were not magnetic keyholders, they were ammo cans!! When we returned we were a bit excited and started caching around our city. Next thing you know, we bought our own GPS, paid for a premium membership on geocaching, and attended our first WBCB.

Since then, we started attending other events around the state and meeting the people whose names were on those log sheets we saw. We have made some really good friends along the way. We began making personal caching goals and even managed to hide a few caches of our own. We joined the WGA that winter and began helping out when we could.

I would like to thank the people that nominated rawevil for a chance to serve on the WGA-BOD. What an honor to be thought of so highly by our peers. The decision to accept the nomination did not come easily. There was a lot of discussion involved before finally saying “YES” to the e-mail received. I will do my best, if elected, to fulfill all of the duties required of a BOD member.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
