Now that could explain why some of mine have gone missing as well. 😯 A very good point that I obviously never thought of.
08/17/2008 at 3:36 am #1892706Wow! The West Bend event has the ‘most active caches’ page locked up, except for the Tapps/Auntiene wedding.
Wonder of Tami will get here ‘mega’ event icon?
08/17/2008 at 3:39 am #1892707We will see; I think it will be close to Mega status…it was a great time Marc….sorry you couldn’t make it.

Not ‘couldn’t make it’. I chose not to go. I figured there would be way too many people at all the cache sites, and was not interested ……

Surprisingly Black Belts and I only ran into teams at about 10 of the 55 caches we did….they did a pretty good job of spreading the caches out in the area…I think there were caches located as far as about 8 miles from the park in the surrounding countryside….and in bigger parks so that even where there were multiple geocachers there you often didn’t see them or saw them on a path walking elsewhere.
08/18/2008 at 8:07 pm #1892710I saw this article in the “News” section today on geocaching.com.

Ya know, Marc, this was a lot different than other events I have attended. Unlike most local events, the choice to use permanent caches made the distance between the caches significant. While we did run into some people, it never felt like a parade of people lining up to sign the log. On the other hand, we ran into a lot of old friends on the way to and from caches, and met a lot of new friends as well. All and all, we had a great time and got a few finds. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Yep, I would have to second that. There was only one area that there were 5 caches in close proximity so we were able to see other cachers. And at only one of those did we actually have a group form while we hunted it. Otherwise the rest of the day we either saw cars pulling up or away as we arrive at each location. It made for a long day but an excellent time.
08/19/2008 at 11:07 pm #1892713We were very careful to try to make sure to space things out quite far to avoid the scenerio discussed above. The fact that there were so many cachers there, well over 300, meant that eventually some people would run into others. From the logs I have gotten though, nobody seemed to mind as everyone was in a good frame of mind and enjoying meeting other cachers, even if they were at the same cache site. We can only hope that next year brings such a fantastic weather day and people together – we all had so much fun! 😀
08/20/2008 at 2:14 am #1892714Bumping into to fellow cachers was half the fun especially when you get a group of them together trying to figure out how to turn 130 degrees using a gps? Had it not been for the group, I may have been walking in circles for hours.

Maybe you need to invent the “nohandscompass”! 😆
