deer ticks

Helping friends track a deer today I brushed off 7 deer ticks crawling on me and found 1 attached to my back. Have not seen ticks since this Spring, but they were abundant. So if caching in the woods or involved in the Youth Deer Hunt this weekend use DEET and check yourselves carefully afterwards. cYa, Jim

Now you tell us! We were just hiking at the summer home for almost five hours on Wednesday! 🙄 No spray but no ticks, thank goodness! No skeets in the woods on a cool windy day after the frost either.

I pulled a tick off me this afternoon. Although it was small I don’t think it was a deer tick, it was one of those little red and black ones.

Great. Just did some googling and it looks like that was a deer tick. I think I’d better go do a more thorough investigation.

Yeah, the little red and black ones are deer ticks. Around here, the ticks in general (wood ticks, deer ticks etc) usually go dormant somewhere around the 4th of July.

However, yes, they DO typically make a comeback in the fall.

Just pulled one off the dog this afternoon after caching at Silver Lake Park. Haven’t found any on us yet.
