Developer of Global Positioning System, Dies

Dr. Ivan Getting, a major force behind the development of the Global Positioning System, died on Oct. 11 at his home in Coronado, Calif. He was 91
Dr. Getting conceived the satellite technology in the 1960’s while president of Aerospace Corporation, a military research and development company based in El Segundo, Calif.
Getting is generally considered the visionary behind GPS and Stanford University’s Bradford Parkinson is considered the man who helped implement the system.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Lee. It adds a new dimension to the technology by knowing a little about the origin of it. Dr. Getting has made a big impact on all of our lives and until now I didn’t know who he was.
