You know after waging a philosophical battle to defend the borders of the kingdom, I conceded a draw on the issue and was content to let the invaders do their thing and log the puzzles they found, solved or not, even if it meant 26, 2 to 5 star difficulty puzzles with a combined cache specific “comment” word count equivalent to a single TWEET.
But now, it appears, that I am being targeted as I have been alerted to a whole spat of puzzle finals being MIA in the past 2 weeks. Some of these finals are not the kind that just go missing or get looted by muggles and to have almost a dozen disappear in that short of a time span is simply not explained away by seasonal, natural or muggle causes.
It’s one thing to disagree with me about my particular wish to have loggers do their best to solve my puzzles, it is quite another thing to make the effort to deliberately sabotage my caches. I can see no other explanation for the mass number of MIA finals and those are only the ones that I know of. I simply don’t have the time or will to go out and check all of my caches.
This is a formal plea to the individual(s) perpetrating this crime. Please, for my sanity, return the caches you have absconded with over the past few weeks. I cannot spare the time to go out to every one of my caches and replace what may likely be missing. If they are not returned by the end of the month, I will probably be leaving this game and pulling all of my caches out of the valley. Maybe that’s what you wanted. If it is, YOU WIN.
There is one other possibility here that I have also considered, that my caches were pulled by a silent ally, not an enemy, in light of the valley puzzle tour that is scheduled next week. If this is the case and you are maintaining anonymity to protect me and yourself, I appreciate the sentiment, but also ask that you replace them ASAP. I am not in this game to make enemies and am resigned to the aforementioned truce. If cachers want to loose out on the best part of the caches they log, that’s their choice.

Alex, you have a better idea than most what would be a “normal” percentage of caches missing. While it does sound like someone is taking caches, I have to wonder if it is only yours that are going missing.
I also have to say that I don’t think that anyone involved in the thread you are referring to would stoop to that level.
I may be wrong on both points. I would hate to see you give up something that you are so obviously passionate about because of one bone-head cache theif, but even more so if you aren’t the only “target”.
I was part of a group that was in the area yesterday and several of the Laughing Water finals and a few other of these caches were infact missing. We spent a couple of hours DNFing these. We even verified locations of the finals with previous finders in some cases. This would not be the first time I have heard of this happening in the state.

It’s heartbreaking when this happens, I know from personal experience. I also know how much time and effort you put into your caches, just like me. It’s tough not to take it personally, but try not to let it drive you from the sport. It seems that the people that put in the most effort in cache hiding are the ones that seem to be targeted most too.
I haven’t published a new cache in far more than a year because of cache theft, but I’m hoping to give it one more try this spring. If they go missing again, I’m not leaving the sport, I’m just not going to be hiding any more caches like I have in the past. It’ll be ammo containers and match stick holders from there out.

I think “times are changing” in general … prior to this year, I think I’ve had maybe 1 or 2 caches stolen in the 5+ years I’ve been doing this. Now sometime between January 10th and February 27th, I’ve had 3 purposely trashed and another taken. And I only have 15 or so caches out there.

So sorry to hear about the missing caches, both yours, EnergySavers, and TyDyeSky’s in the past. There really is no rational reason that people would do that. I cant even wrap my mind around it, it is so senseless.
