I originally wanted us to be Fireflies – just cuz I love the little critters – but that name was taken. So we became LightningBugs. Boring, I know…
11/24/2004 at 3:41 am #1749118i was using djwini for email before i got started with geocaching. just seemed easiest to keep it. dj for first and middle initial, wini–short for winiarski. so you just say dj wini. and mark gets included in the team cuz he doesn’t really care about logging.
11/24/2004 at 3:47 am #1749119I was a little hesitant to jump in on this because my nickname (given to me years ago) is a no-brainer…just adding ‘ster’ to my last name..Brick. I simply eliminated the ‘ic’ on my e-mail since there already was a Brickster, and decided to keep the same handle for geocaching.
11/24/2004 at 7:10 pm #1749120In a related subtopic: How about how fellow geocachers pronounce your geo handle if it could be ambiguous?
Did wzbt03 ever dream he’d be called Wizbit?
brkster: I thought when I saw it, it was and have other people say “berkster”
Arcangl come to find out is not Arch Angel!
WISearchers are also know as the Why searchers, or Wisconsin Searchers
Is it Bray band? or Bra band?
I’m just gussing it not dj weenie… but winnie..hmmm. Things to ponder. Now I will be up all night!
Happy Thanksgiving all!
11/24/2004 at 8:43 pm #1749121EnergySaver … not too hard to figure out, I work for a company that is part of the state’s energy efficiency and renewable energy program … not that I save much energy directly, since I work in the admin office. I save a lot of energy when I drive to work, since I’m only about 7 miles away … which I love.
11/24/2004 at 10:59 pm #1749122Finally a question I can answer! “braband” is pronounced with a short “a” as in “rabbit” — pronounced and spelled like “brass band” without the “ss”.
11/25/2004 at 1:05 am #1749123I’ve had others ask me if it was pronounced ‘Berk-ster’, plus I even had someone ask me if I was from Brookfield (I’m not).
11/27/2004 at 6:47 pm #1749124Interesting thread and one that was started before we ever heard of geocaching too. We are still trying to figure out this whole “board” thing, since we are on webtv and not real compatible with things. Anyway to add our name story. During the few days between learning about geocaching, ordering a GPS, getting it and figuring it out we did a brainstorming session, writing down many ideas. The reason we used “Timberline” was because we bike, or should I say, biked (before geocaching) a lot and our bikes are GT Timberlines. We also have always enjoyed the woods, hiking and camping so we agreed it fit us best. As far as the Echoes part it is just a word we like for different reasons. As soon as we decided our name, the male half of the team designed our cards and we were ready to cache Memorial Day.
Timberline Echoes11/27/2004 at 9:46 pm #1749125I can’t find the email I sent explaining mine so I’ll have to type it anyway. right after getting my gps I took my children out geocaching. we were in the woods and going in circles when my daughter piped up “I think were lost” to which I replied “no were not lost”, to which she replied “I think we are”, and finally I said “Really we’re not lost, the gps tells us were we are”. Right after that we found the cache and I hadn’t picked a handle yet, so I used “really i’m not lost”. as for my daughter “Can’t sit still” she is 9 years old, need I say more? and my son just came up with “along for the ride” as we only had one gps and I can on occasion be a gps hog (it is my gps).
11/28/2004 at 12:06 am #1749126Well mine is pretty simple. tishman is known to holler “lucy i’m home” ……when he opens the door every night. Also my son likes to tell me in his best Ricky Ricardo voice “Lucy you got some splaining to do” (even when i don’t…lol). So it was a nickname that stuck…even in my e-mail address. The number is a very important date in my life. So there you have it.

11/28/2004 at 4:51 am #1749127Wade picked out ecorangers as our family name. Eco because we are interested in ecology and rangers because we want to be like rangers! Professor is an actually professor, Tait wants to be treated like a “princess,” Dane loves Yu-gi-oh and loves to duel thus Duelist, me, Earth Angel because I’d rather clean up mother earth than my house! Tami
11/29/2004 at 12:30 am #1749128Messa & I selected our names pretty easily. Mine, since it is my family nickname. “Auntie” since I am an auntie. And “Nae” came about because little kids have a hard time pronouncing the “Re” part of my name, they will shorten it to Nae. Although I spell it Renee.
Messa is short for “Mess-A-Lot”. Her older brother is the “neat freak” and well, Melissa, is the complete opposite. Messes just seem to follow her around. Now that she is “grown” she prefers the shorter “Messa” version.

11/29/2004 at 12:34 am #1749129I can add how TamCo got her name. We started geocaching while attending a conference in Charleston South Carolina. Initially, she had not planned on logging her finds. Upon our return, we started geocaching, with 1 GPS between us, with her husband. I nicknamed her “Tammie & Company” .. meaning Tammie & her husband. She shortened it to TamCo once the mosquitos came out and she needed something quick to sign in the logs.
11/29/2004 at 3:09 am #1749130AstroD-Team came about after finding our first cache. We didn’t realize we needed a name to sign the log and we didn’t want to use our real name. So we used “Astro” because we love astronomy, “D” because its the first initial of our last name and “Team” because AstroD alone sounded stupid. Team was added cause we couldn’t think of anything else at the time.
