The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a front page article today that talks about the Wisconsin DNR’s newly released study on outdoor recreation in the state. It mentions geocaching (“And sports such as geocaching are melding satellite technology and the outdoors as people trek virtually anywhere to find treasures and replace them with their own.”)
Article is here: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=484535
The story provides a link to the full DNR report, which is available in PDF form online. If you go to that report and search for “geocaching” you’ll find several references to our sport, including a finding that an estimated 2% of the population is involved in the activity, which equates to 83,000 people. A paragraph on page 2-4 includes this mention of the WGA: “As the sport gains more exposure from associations like the Wisconsin Geocaching Association (http://wi-geocaching.com/), it is expected to continue to increase in popularity.”
