Some people know me know I do midnight caching. Start at 10 pm and stop as late as 3am. I have had some scary moments, some mind causing some real. The FTF Nuts know what I’m talking about.
So here is a question for my fellow cachers. Have you or do you carried a weapon with you while caching knife, pepper spray, gun, thick walking stick, spring loaded baton, billy club, black jack, night stick, nagging wifeYes.
On the Left Side of the Road...Does a knife count if its intended purpose is not self-defense? We always have a multi-tool with us, but have never needed to defend ourselves with it.
Just the intimidating presence of a formidable opponent. 😈
Night caching is a police magnet.
Night caching with a weapon is, likely, room and board.pepper spray … but more for fear of some insane 4-legged creature … but then again, it might just make it more insane.

I have a few of those items as well, you’ll have to be legally careful with a couple of them. Specially the bear swatter.
Speak of bears.
I have a pet bear (it was orphaned as a cub).
When I’ve cached in bad neighborhoods, I’ve taken it along.
Nobody messes with you when you have a bear.But not everyone seems to appreciate it.
Last summer I went caching with it and passed through a nudiest colony.
They all started freaking out.They said I had to leave a bear behind.
Yes. I usually have 2-3 weapons with me, however I carry them as tools and they double as weapons if needed. I’m still waiting for concealed carry so i can be legal at all times.
We carry knifes but that’s just the finnish way. My husband is also a bear so that is very helpful. G scaffdog
I carry an automatic knife wherever I go. It’s main purpose has never been defense, but it works for that too.
On that note, I’m surprised how many places I can enter with the knife and not be stopped. I wear it so it can be seen plain as day, but never once had an issue. It won’t even set off the the metal detectors at the courthouse or Six Flags, and it’s military issue, all aluminum and steel.
