… log a “find” of an archived cache when you either find it and remove it in the process of a cache rescue mission, or find it and remove it at the request of a cache owner?

Only example of this I ever encountered was finding a long archived cache at the site were another individual had placed a newer cache which was missing.

I logged the archived cache as a find and explained the situation in the log and let the owner of the present cache at the site know his was missing. He archived his cache and I stopped by a year later with no action on the original archived cache and removed it.

Instead of scoring on a puzzle cache I had finally figured out I got a find on a traditional. Not exactly what I had originally wanted.

Yes, I log a LTF post on a Cache Rescue (if I did not previously find the cache), but ONLY if I find the container. If no container is present, I didn’t find the cache! I also take a pix of the removed container and try to reuse it, if possible.

Absolutely I claim a find because I found it.

If you go and put forth the effort to remove a cache container that you had not found before, then you deserve the smiley.

Just want to know what the prevailing consensus is, since a cache rescue is still hunting an archived cache, even though the intent is noble.
We searched, we found, we removed.

if the cache was on the rescue list due to a maintenance issue and the Rescue was a verified removed and I found the container and removed it, I would say yes, both found and rescue should be submitted. If the cache was on Rescue due to DNFs, usually a verify present type would be on that rescue and often requested that only previous finders attempt to verify, though sometimes people get lucky. If you cannot verify that the cache is there or gone as a previous finder, then only the looked and did not find LCG report seems correct.

If it is a verify present mission, why would only previous finders be allowed? If I haven’t found the cache before, and I go there and find it, doesn’t that verify that it is present? I think it should be the other way around. If it is verify removed mission and I haven’t found it before, I go out to GZ and can’t find it, that doesn’t verify that it is removed … just that I couldn’t find it. If I do find it and remove it, though, then I can verify that it is removed.

As to the original question, if I find an archived cache and remove it, I log a find as well as the cache rescue and LCG reports.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

usually, the verify present rescues have a long list of DNFs that only a former finder can validate. If you find it great. I don’t make the rules, I only interpret what I see.

BJ60… if you DIDN’T find the “Verify Present” cache, you would simply be adding your DNF to the rest of them. If, by chance, you FOUND the “Verify Present” cache, it is not meant to be removed; just verified that it is there. You would, of course, log a smilie for that.

That is why a ‘previous finder’ is more likely to verify whether a cache is present or missing. If it is missing, it then goes to the “Remove” CR Mission, if the Reviewer chooses to put it there. It also gives the CO an extra 30 days to fix it!
