A fellow geocacher had this idea and I thought that I would bring it up on this most excellent forum. 😆

I don’t know exactly how it would work, but being able to give people money for the quality caches that they produce. For example, you put $10 in your account, and if you do an excellent cache, you maybe give 25 cents or 50 cents to that persons account.

My wife and I have done some great caches in Wisconsin where I am sure people have put much time, energy, and money into them. Just think if 12 people like your cache, and each give a quarter. Then you have $3 toward your next cache to make it even better. Or you have $3 to divide out to other quality cache hiders…just a brainstorming idea.

    What do you guys think?

I think you have too much money.

All I ask is if you like my cache say so. My greatest reward is that someone comes away with a good memory and shares it with me.

I agree. The best reward is a kind log stating that you enjoyed the cache. Personally, I’d feel funny taking money for a cache that I put out. Worse yet… what if no one gave me any money! My feelings would be hurt. 🙁

Either way, The best reward is the finder’s log.

If your giving away cash for cache … I’m not proud … I’d be happy to suggestion 3 or 4 of my caches, including one that is high security for the folding money. 😕

I think most would agree that the best way to pay back hiders (in additional to a grateful log) is to hide some more caches yourself.

Same with us as well, a well thought out and appreciative log is all that I request if you thought the cache was worthwhile.

I think the best way to thank a cacher for putting out decent swag is to follow the rules – TRADE UP OR TRADE EVEN!!!!

I know we put some great “brand new” things into our caches when we hide them. In particular, We Stand On Guard For Thee was filled with some really nice things I brought from Canada – mugs, windchimes, coasters, bottle openers, cards, etc. Within only 2 months we checked the cache and it was filled with – let’s face it – junk. Broken toys and things nobody wants. If we want to find quality caches, then we have to be willing to trade evenly for them. It only costs a couple of bucks to make a stop at the dollar store every once in awhile. Not everyone out there caching has kids, but time after time, the only thing we’re finding in Wisconsin caches is old toys.

I vote for the “let people know” approach. The best rewards I get are when people take the time to write detailed logs saying why they enjoyed their time at one of our caches. (Let’s ban “TFTC” logs! Ok, I’ve been guilty a few times myself…)

One way to get the message across is to use one of the geocache rating systems. Give it a whirl if you’d like.
