Somehow, we need to show them how the Minnasota DOT embraces geocaching.

Yes…and this is exactly the type of activity for which we have a BOD.

How much more effective approaching representatives will be if we can show them that there is an organized body behind this game, backed of course by 933 active members.

It’s time for the burden to be lifted off a single person for spearheading this effort and for our 9-member board to approach this with a strategy that can get it done, if in fact this is important. If the ball is not picked up we can assume it is unimportant.

Speaking for our member ID, I will be happy to contact our state reps, but it would be most effective to approach them with materials and information that is consistent and reflective of an organizational position.

Here is a list of current legislators. http://www.legis.state.wi.us/assembly/aod.pdf

Actually, while contacting the legislature is a good idea, I’d suggest we aim higher. I’m sure that among this group, we have several card carrying Democrats who contributed to and campaigned for the current governor. We all know that money talks in politics, so I would suggest that anyone in this category step up and lead the effort to open communications with Mr. Doyle. Something tells me that a phone call from the boss will loosen up the guys in the DOT. Anyone willing to lead?

I personally think that’s a lost cause on Doyle. He doesn’t care, he’s leaving office after this term. He could care less about any money now.

Maybe Mr. Obama could appoint a wayside czar to study the situation. Maybe even have a beer with disgruntled Geocachers? 🙄

I’m sorry, I need to go take my meds now….. 😳

Bec is the point person on this issue, and I am sure the board will be looking at a variety of options to make some progress when we discuss it this fall.

I will say for political action to be effective, legislators need to be approached with respect, and that taking cheap shots at Doyle or Obama is rather off topic and not helpul.

I found that most legislators are there for the right reasons, irregardless if they have a “D” or an “R” behind their name. They want to do right for the citizens, and generally the best approach is respectul education of the issues.

I worked with many legislators on the EMS funding issue in my past life and both the R’s and the D’s were equally helpful. Because of her position of being in leadership, and being an RN, Judy Robson was particularly helpful. The RN behind her name had more to do with it than the “D.”

Likewise, I worked extensively with Sheila Harsdorf on First Responder Defibrillation law changes, and she was a work horse on the issue, that had more to do with her family and here constituents living in a rural area than it did with the “R” behind her name.

If we decide to change our approach on this, we will need the help of our membership in contacting legislators. But we will need to do so with respect for the legislators, and not assume that they are all lying SOBs, because they are not.
