Do you suppose this might fix it so I don’t have to log in again and again and again, every time I switch to a new screen?

It’s becoming a real pain to try to do anything on the gc.com website.

Yep, they (groundspeak lackeys) were hinting again in the website forum of an upcoming new release (updates) to the geocaching.com website.

But the 500 query should still come to your inbox…whereas the 1000 you need to go get it at the website.

There’s a thread (or 3) on the geocaching.com website forum and a response from Opinionate regarding the PQ download error. Unrelated to today’s downtime and apparently fixed…

Yes, it was caused by something completely unrelated to the PQ downloads so it was a bit difficult to track down. My sincere apologies for the downtime guys.

    Large Update.

Some interesting highlights… Sharing a subset of the Release Notes for informational/discussion purposes. For more info please refer to the Groundpeak Website forum.

Trackables Collection – Has the list of Trackables you are “holding” grown out of control? For those of you with a collection of geocoins or mileage-tracker bugs we have added a new virtual collection to your profile. More information can be found in the Trackables Collection knowledge book.

Language Translations – This one is exciting for us. For the first time we are able to offer site translation in 5 major languages; including German, French, Portuguese, Czech and Swedish. This is a work in progress, so not all text and navigation has been translated at this time, although many of the key areas of the site have been. We will continue this localization effort until all areas of the site have been translated in these languages, as well as add entirely new language options down the road. You can select a language preference in your profile and in the footer on every page of the site. Many thanks to the geocachers who contributed their time and knowledge to this effort!

I see you can now “like” caches for Facebook and nominate caches for the Lost and Found. Is this a good thing?

    Following the signals from space.

I just saw that. I think it’s pretty stupid. 🙄

I agree, but maybe I am too old to understand its need.

    #1920081

Neato! One of the updates they made added the cache type icon to our (as in the WGA’s) automated Recent Logs page 😉

    How cool is that.

    #1920082

Noticed the icons right off the bat. Also, we just moved a WI cow coin, and that icon shows up in our list of actions, too.

One feature that is commonly requested is a rating system for caches. GS has always shied away from this idea, based on the fear that people would retaliate against their “enemy’s” caches. You can think of this “like” system as a weak excuse for a rating system. Eventually, you will probably be able to see how many times a cache was “liked” and thus have some sort of filter for selecting which cache you might want to look for.

Note that this is similar to a suggestion several people made, where people would be assigned a number of “likes” based on the number of finds they had, which they could in turn assign to other people’s caches. Maybe something like 1 like for every 50 or 100 finds. This way, if someone posted a like on a cache, it would really mean something. Now, you can just “like” every cache you find (maybe every cache period) so the ratings will carry less meaning. For now, we will just need to wait and see how this version works out.
