Can you help?
The Cache Ba$h committee is looking for volunteers to help download the 50 new caches into GPSrs at the Event on both Friday and Saturday. We’d like a few people at the station in each time slot, but we especially need help when it begins each day (at least 4 volunteers and laptops would be ideal during the busy time). Basically, you just need to hook up people’s GPSr to the laptop and hit a button. Easy.
*** We also need laptops! If you can volunteer and also have a laptop we can use, let us know.
Please sign up if you can help out during any of these time slots. I broke it down into 2-hour segments, but anything would be appreciated:
FRIDAY:
Noon-2
2-4
4-6
6-8SATURDAY:
7am-10amEither respond here or send me a private message. Thanks!
06/29/2010 at 11:32 pm #1931989I would be willing to help Saturday morning from 7am to 10am. I have a laptop with GSAK on it.
If you need a serial port, I can look at an old laptop this weekend.
06/30/2010 at 12:15 pm #1931990I can help with
FRIDAY:
2-4If I can get there earlier I will do so – I can not guarantee that since I have 3.5 hour drive to make with Kids and dog, which is not welcomed West Bend.
I will bring my laptop* with one USB to mini usb cable.
* I’m still unsure about actually leaving laptop for general usage by others.
06/30/2010 at 12:21 pm #1931991I can help saturday 7 to 10. My laptop has gsak on it, so that’ll be ok….no serial port though.
07/01/2010 at 7:52 pm #1931992The kmhikers will be there also have a laptop. We can load on Fri anytime and Sat am or as needed. Just let us know.
07/01/2010 at 9:56 pm #1931993I will be happy to loan my Acer notebook. It does not have any geocaching software on it though, what would I need? GSAK? PC Frog, we will take good care of it, we promise! 😀 Jeremy is awesome and I am sure will be on top of any problems or issues so I have no problem feeling comfortable using my laptop. I can also probably bring my daughter’s, but again would need to download whatever. Can you please advise what we need on there?
Oh and of course I will be there, whenever and for whatever I am needed for. Set me up in a time slot where you need help the most.
07/02/2010 at 7:29 pm #1931994Put us down from 7-10 sat me and the better half two labtops both with GSAK
07/04/2010 at 3:58 am #1931995When volunteering to help with GPS downloads, please indicate:
– Time(s) during which you are willing to help.
– Whether you plan to bring a laptop running GSAK 7.5+ (if you don’t have GSAK installed, we can put it on temporarily). Can the laptop be used by others when you are not there?
– Any GPS cables you plan to bring (we can always use more Garmin and Magellan USB cables). You do not need a laptop to volunteer. If you know the basic operation of GSAK (can go to download in the menu essentially) we can use your help. We will have a number of laptops set up the whole weekend that just need folks to drive them.
We are working on a complete list of GPS units that we will be able to download to. Basically all Garmin and Magellan units and the new DeLorme units, plus a few oddballs.
07/04/2010 at 2:16 pm #1931996I have POI Loader for the Garmin Nuvi, and GSAK. I will have a couple of USB cables along for USB Type. My laptop with the serial port would not start up anymore so that one is not available.
I am planning on being at the meet and greet Friday, I can help download at that time also.
Does GSAK support the Delorme and Magellan? If it does not I can download software for those units before hand.
07/04/2010 at 3:05 pm #1931997I have 3 cables for Garman, but will need GSAK ow what ever installed. We plan on being there in park from 12:00 to 4:00 + if needed. We only live 2 Blks away. Use us or abuse us at your will.
07/04/2010 at 3:06 pm #1931998P.S. Yes we can leave it there.
07/09/2010 at 3:44 pm #1931999Thanks to everyone who has volunteered so far. I think we are getting close to having enough folks to cover Saturday morning, but could definitely use more help on Friday (especially in the evening, when we were flooded with people who wanted downloads last year).
The current list of download and other activity volunteers for the Cache Ba$h can be found here: [http://wi-geocaching.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11331]2010 Cache Ba$h Master Volunteer Thread[/url]. Please post there instead of in this thread if you’d like to help us with downloads.
07/10/2010 at 11:47 am #1932000Put us down for the evening to if needed to download.
