something that I think would be cool would be if all the caches would show on a state picture and then we could drag a pointer across the state making a square box and then get a PQ for the caches in the box
yea I know do it by zip code but this way could be faster and more of an area of enterest rather than having to take a 100 mile circle when all I want is along a hwy

Very cool idea. I can see a small drop down window with a thumbnail of cache data in the area (ID, Type, d/t) for 5-10 caches. But these are only dreams. It’s the digerati at gc.com that could make this sort of thing happen. 🙂

exactly … that’s my idea of “drag and drop”

that reminds me of a place I know of in my area that actually has an old bowling ball wedge into the root system of a tree … I really must get around to hiding a cache in that spot.

Not quite what you are looking for, but have you tried the caches along a route function on GC.Com. You can specify a particular highway route and then get all the caches within a specified distance of the highway. There is a fairly large number of useful routes already uploaded to GC.com (as well as an even larger number of useless routes originating from peoples houses) and you can search for routes by zip code or city. Once you have a route, you are only a couple clicks from a working PQ of the area.

Nice job on this too. I get a kick out of some of the other public routes out there. “My house to grandma’s house”, etc. Do these guys think someone else is going to use that route?

What I do is enter a zipcode near where I want to cache, then when the first page comes up listing 20 caches I click on the map it button. Then I click on “view in Google maps (Beta)”. This is pretty cool. From here I can pan and zoom anywhere I want. It will show up to 20 caches by number, you can click on the number and the listing header appears above the map. You can then click on the listing and it takes you to the GC.com listing. It will also show of the 20 listed caches, caches “you have found”, caches “you own” and caches “you have bookmarked”. You can also bookmark them on this page. It also has a neat satelliite and hybrid (satellite with markers) option. Pretty cool for scouting the area. I usaully do this when going to an area I’m not familiar with. I get twenty or so that I want to do and then I print the page. It even gives you street names and numbers.

I use (and recomend) Google Earth (Geocaching version).

Type in the name of the city, landmark, highway, whatever, and it takes you there, anywhere on the planet. Instantly, every cache in the area is on your screen and you’re just one click away from the cache page of any cache on your screen. It outlines parks, has 3D buildings, it will even give you restraunts, K-marts, Gas stations, whatever. I can even see my old MG in the sat photo above my home! Yeah, it’s only about 25 pixles, but it’s there.
