02/10/2003 at 1:14 am #1745225The first computer I owned at home (previously I used dialup timeshare (GE Mark IV) was a SWTPC 6800. It ran at an impressive 1MHz, and came with 2KB (yes, K, not M) of memory. Additional memory could be built (only available as a kit) in 2KB chunks for $200 each. It maxed out at 32KB. My dad still has this system in his basement Ah, the memories!

LARRYSorry it took so long for me to repond… haven’t been in the forums much this week. Alan explained quite well that ISDN and DSL are two different beasts. IF you are interested in DSL, I would go to http://www05.sbc.com/DSL?SRC=&EI=&E=L&CI=&UI=&EL=&TI=&RI=&RD= as a first step. There is a link on that page that determines if you have DSL availability in your area.As far as pricing is concerned, SBC has switched to a nice (but just slightly confusing) tiered pricing system, meaning that you can choose different speed connections at a different monthly rate. Instead of simply offering 768Kbps now, they offer you anywhere from 384 kbps up to several Mbps. Last I checked, it looked like that 768kbps package has an introductory offer of 29.95 a month if you committed for one year, and that included a free modem. I would go to the website to get some information, and then call in with any additional questions (be ready, they WILL try to sign you up!) They’ll be able to inform you of the most current promotions. 02/16/2003 at 5:56 pm #1745228Check out Earthlink, I did a broadband locater through the dell website and it came up with earthlink at 42 bucks a month with free unlimited dial-up, 8 e-mail addresses and 10mb of space per e-mail. Looked pretty good to me, too bad I’ve got dsl for another year otherwise I’d switch. 02/17/2003 at 9:53 pm #1745229I feel guilty for not posting here. This has got to be one of THE longest running forum topics for a LONG time. 02/17/2003 at 10:26 pm #1745230quote:
