I went to the Yellowstone Lake State Park Cache a week or so ago and had the best wildlife sighting I have ever had. The cache turned out to be very long and hard because I parked in the wrong spot but I finally found it after bushwacking, meeting hunters (turkey season) and soaking my boots in a stream crossing.
When I arrived at the cache, I sat down to log it and saw two full grown eagles fly right in front of me. I watched them for close to 45 minutes as they fished and glided around the lake. Then I noticed one land in the tree 60′ in front of me. The eagles nest is in a tall pine right on the shore.
Seeing nature is one of the top reasons I geocache and this topped them all. If you would like to see the nest without hunting the cache, park at the ranger station and look directly across the lake. Look for two tall pines standing as a pair right on the lake. At the very top of the left one is the nest. You don’t need binoculars to see it but they could help.
