I noticed in the forum tonight that Jeremy is trying to organize a Cache in-Trash out type event to coinside with Earth Day April 22 (but he’s trying to do April 26 -Saturday). Aynway, I think it’s something we could all do special caching & trashing that week. Possibly Wi-geocaching could contact DNR to see if they have any areas that we could have a group help clean-up, as sort of our first “friend of the parks” event. Other wise just plan on taking an extra bag along to clean up a cache area.

Sounds like a good idea to me. We could contact the State Parks and see if they could recommend an area that needs cleaning up, or perhaps some other type of project.

I seem to remember that garlic mustard pulling was all the rage last year, but we didn’t really find out enough about it until after the “pulling season” was over.

As long as we’re talking to the DNR, perhaps they can suggest an area where a few dozen geocachers pulling weeds while looking for caches could do some good.

we would like to plan a cache-in/trash-out event here on the west side……..there’s a place in Hudson Wisconsin that needs some serious clean up attention. This place is used by boaters galore in the summer months and unfortunately it gets trashed big time! I’ve tried searching geocache.com’s website for ideas on how to organize an event cache……i know i’ve read some posts about it, but I can’t seem to find it now. Does anyone here have any ideas or know where I could find something about it?

I’m not personally familiar with an event dedicated to cache in-trash out but it sounds like a great idea. Here are some ideas for you and for anyone who might be thinking of organizing such an event in Wisconsin.

You could post an event cache at geocaching.com. List the coordinates for the parking lot or meeting place for the place in Hudson, list a time and the date, and what to bring. Then ask people to sign up by posting a note on the web page for that event. After they attend, each person could record the event as a “find” if you want to set it up that way.

If there are any geocaches nearby, you could have a group hunt after the trash-out event.

You may want to take pictures of the trash out activity and upload them to the web page. And if you want the WGA to help publicize the event at our web site, just let us know.
