I am on a new mission to get all of the icons I can get on my cache stats page. I think I am missing the cache in/ trash out icon which I hope to get at the next nearest event. I also plan on going for an Ape icon next weekend. I may even go against my morals and find a locationless cache one day. The one that stumps me is the new Earthcache.
Is the Earthcache just a glorified virtual? Are there specific rules to qualify? I see that the closest one to me is in Indiana (GCKTG1) and 176 miles away. The ones I found look like virtuals because they require only information or a picture to claim a find. There are no logbooks required. Does it have to be something major like the continental divide or can it just be a really cool looking big tree?

This is the official earthcache page.
Oh this sounds like a cache type that is just up my alley. I have this unusual love of geology. I might just have to start ‘placing’ some of these earthcaches in Wisconsin. I can think of a dozen places that would rock for it. (no pun intended hehe)
Actually, a lot of caches in central wisconsin area could almost be considered earthcaches that we’ve visited.
I’ll see what we can do over winter break, maybe we’ll get a couple earthcaches created if we get time.

I got me one of those earthcaches last weekend … and I would not say it was a glorified virtual, it is a virtual under a different name. My two cents.
