1st International EarthCache Event Update – May 2011
The 1st International EarthCache Event (1IEE) planning is well underway with many exciting things to be announced through this newsletter each month. We will be providing you with information to help you plan your attendance – including more details on events, sessions and accommodation so that you can get the very most out of being in our part of the planet. We will also run some neat competitions where you can win prices, well before the event!
The venue!
To start the great news off, we are super pleased to announce that the venue for 1IEE is Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine (N43 54.233 W070 15.429). This is an amazing venue just 35 mins drive north of Portland airport (around 25 miles). It provides us with great opportunities for outdoor and indoor venues for sessions and events as well as amazing activities for families to experience farm life.We are starting to build the EarthCaching experience in the area so that while you are visiting you can work towards reaching your personal goals – and learn about some amazing Earth science!
The event runs on Sunday 2 September 2012 – and there will be pre and post event activities for which you to join so that you can make it a wonderful few days.
Help us to make it Mega
A mega event requires 500 or more people to log the Event cache on the day. We are very confident that we will reach that, but ask you to help us get the word out to your local geocaching group. Its easy – ask your local geocaching group’s webmaster to post the event on their website. The link is http://www.earthcacheevent.org. If you can, try and get the QR code posted as well – this code, when scanned by a smart phone, will send people directly to the 11IEE website:When its done – share the link back with us by sending us an email here ([email protected]) letting us know where to see the mention, and your name and address and we will send you a small reward!
Want to be a sponsor for 1IEE?
We are seeking the support of organizations and companies to ensure that 1IEE provides an amazing experience for all the participants. At the same time, we hope that organizations and companies can see real value to their own marketing/promotion efforts by having a presence at 1IEE. We also offer the opportunity for individuals to become Friends of 1IEE – as a way for people to contribute to the sucess of the very first EarthCache Mega? event. For more infomration visit the event sponsorship page. This months competition
While not the first EarthCache placed in the world, a cache in Maine USA was converted into an EarthCache and therefore has the oldest ‘placed’ date of any EarthCache. The first 10 people who send us the name and cache owner of that EarthCache will be sent a small prize in the mail.Send the answer and your name and address in an email here ([email protected]). Winners will be announced in our next newsletter.
We look forward to seeing you at the event next year!
The 1IEE Team
(Please remember that this event is in 2012!)
05/16/2011 at 11:34 am #1946499I got this invitation too since I’m part of the EC masters. I would love to go! But I doubt my schedule will allow it as that is when kids are going back to school and so am I. It would really be fun though! Anyone else thinking of going?

I have seen in other forums interest from some folks in Wisconsin in attending….06/20/2011 at 5:39 pm #1946501It’s a long way off, but we’re hoping to go there and make a trip of it. We could get more New England states at the same time, since I only managed to visit CT. I learned quickly one thing about New England…lots of rock wall hides! They make that one in Pike Lake SP look like a park and grab.
07/08/2011 at 12:05 am #1946502Not sure, but would love to attend. not sure if it’s in the budget with a Thanksgiving trip to see family in Nov then Fiji, AU & NZ in Jan 2012. maybe if we can get a good deal on tickets! 🙂
