I thought this wasn’t a concern. I received an email from the earthcache approver that we need to check with the owner of a nearby cache for permission to place this one. Said cache is about 200 feet above on the top of the bluff, so really not so close when a person has to get from ours to theirs.
I know as a cache owner, I’d be happy to have others nearby to increase the likelihood of more visits to it. jenhen, if you’re reading this, check your email!
12/20/2007 at 5:39 pm #1882481While I am NOT an approver, I do not believe this is an issue as there is no container. The 528 rule (if that is what’s at issue here) should not apply. Could just be a mistake?
Was the email from Geoaware or one of our local folks?
I have found an Earthcache within 10-20 feet of a traditional cache.
12/20/2007 at 7:27 pm #1882482I thought natural barriers made the distance null as well.
For example, you could have two caches 200 feet apart due to the fact there were separated by a river or a cliff.
12/20/2007 at 7:36 pm #1882483The distance rule does not apply with Earthcaches HOWEVER, they can not be at the same coordinates.
12/20/2007 at 7:47 pm #1882484We had the same issue with two of ours. We jumped through all of the other hoops and were finally ready to go. We simply emailed the owners of the other caches and explained the requirements and they happily gave their permission in the form of and email. They saw it as a chance to get a bit more action on their caches as well. We forwarded the permission to the reviewers and it took no time for them to approve them.
12/20/2007 at 8:15 pm #1882485I’ve got the permission from jenhen, so hopefully it will come through soon. Geoaware was the one who raised the question. As I said, the coordinates are not the same, in fact, it takes cachers to a sheer rock face, on top of which and further west is the existing cache. Only those with climbing gear could make it 500 feet between caches, LOL.

Geoaware must have thought you looked shady…I have had no issues even with mine being less than 528 in some cases. I sure hope yours is winter friendly…hint hint.
12/20/2007 at 8:30 pm #1882487If you don’t mind trudging up a hill, it should be fine. I think I gave it a 3.5 for terrain, but it’s not that tough. There are two other caches on the top of the bluff after you finish it, too. Getting to those is a bit more challenging, as you have to find spots around the bluff to shinny up, but it’s still not bad. Others have approached them straight up from the parking lot, but then they miss the cool rock wall. It’s a very cool spot to visit.
