Apples. We like to pack a picnic lunch if the weather is going to be nice. Just our normal sandwiches and stuff.
Unhealthy is when we choose where to cache based on which Culvers has a good FOTD.

Picnics or Culver’s for us too. Sometime we’ll probably bump into each other at one or the other.

10/18/2012 at 8:53 pm #1965146Here’s another, homemade cajun seasoned pumpkin seeds. I had almost forgotten, it’s been about three years since I’ve carved pumpkins.
I don’t know about Trekkin and Birdin, but I’m still watching for other unusual ideas/recipes.
10/18/2012 at 9:08 pm #1965147Tom, I’d love to see more recipes, too. Do you use a packaged seasoning or make your own for the pumpkin seeds?

Penzeys Cajun Spice. They have some great selections and hotness temperatures depending on what you like. Seeds and spice, bake in the oven, doesn’t get much easier.
Forgot to add that you can add a little oil to help the spice stick better but I prefer it when you just spray the cookie sheet with a non stick spray. Some people like a touch of salt, Cindy and I skip that. Keep shoveling, (flipping) while roasting (baking).
10/19/2012 at 1:20 am #1965149I always have a box of granola bars and a gallon of water in the car.
Otherwise I love Kwik Trip [:D]10/19/2012 at 1:36 am #1965150@Lacknothing wrote:
Almonds! I always have almonds on hand and Greek yogurt in the fridge. Both are healthy food items! Protein shakes are good too!
Can’t forget wasabi p-nuts, soy and wasabi almonds, fresh cherries so we can “plant” the pits to grow more cherry trees, raw veggies, and maybe some chocolate to nibble on.

The Wasabi peas in a trail mix combo is one I look for in my selections. I like the bite. Speaking of cherries, the Mount Rainer are especially good. Pricey and only in season but very good! (The red and yellow ones for those of you like me who get them all confused… Colors are easier to remember.)
10/19/2012 at 3:54 am #1965152Sardines and herring (puffin food). Pita chips with garlic hummus. (you might not see us, but you’ll know we’re there……………… 😳 🙂 ) And Mountain Dew. That’s about it.
And oh yes! We always look for a local Ma & Pa bakery in the morning….the earlier, the better!
10/19/2012 at 2:33 pm #1965153For a full day of caching I used to start out with a powerbar and a coke, I was zinging until well after 2pm or until I ate lunch.
I like trying local flavors, little corner bars, etc. Though have packed my own on occasion.
If I had the time I’d bring the cast iron along and fire up some good grub.. but that never happens.
10/19/2012 at 2:51 pm #1965154Paczkis. It’s a food group.
On the Left Side of the Road...10/19/2012 at 3:21 pm #1965155paczki – Dictionary definition and pronunciation – (p nch k ) KEY NOUN: pl. paczki. A round Polish pastry similar to a doughnut, usually filled with fruit and topped with sugar or icing.
O.K., once I saw the pronunciation I knew what it was. Good word for a spelling bee.
10/19/2012 at 3:33 pm #1965156While on a Paczki hunt one morning up nort, we ended up at a little crossroads bakery that knew what they were, but offered up something they said was even better: Kolaches! Not sure they were better, but they certainly hit the spot equally well. And, like pizza and Pazkis, they are great for morning, noon and night.
But ahhhhhhh, for want of a malasada……………. 🙁 🙁
10/19/2012 at 4:04 pm #1965157We were in Reedsburg yesterday eating things fermented along the Farm/Art DTour, and stopped in the gift shop in town. They had a lot of cool books there, published by U of W Press. We got a coupon for orders….I think this one will be on order for us.

I like also the sociology aspect of this guide. We do enjoy finding little local places. I grew up in “nordeast” Minneapolis, where most of the kids’ surnames ended in czyk or ski, but had not heard of gotta run’s food group before. Sounds yummy. Have to keep an eye out for them.
