The tough part, as you well know, is keeping the momentum. The contest’s design of voting every day for a month is odd. But it is what it is.
Given the fact that PA Rick has the “bully pulpit” of his classroom to remind dozens (hundreds?) of kids to vote each day, the fact that it is close is pretty amazing.
We got several new voters for ya in the last few days and are reminding folks daily via FB…
On the Left Side of the Road...01/27/2012 at 1:51 pm #1955323Dick had composed this comment to leave on the other Rick’s vote page. While I completely agree with his sentiment, I advised him to let it go. He really wanted to add that “the comments that follow this speak for themselves,” because he knew it would spark a bunch of middle school nonsense, having spent almost all of those teaching years in one. He’s there subbing today, in fact!
I’m a retired professional educator who spent an entire career teaching among other values, the value of honesty to my students. As an educator I have to wonder, is encouraging young people to bend the rules and/or having the knowledge that your students are doing so the legacy you want to leave? When children are encouraged to, or knowingly allowed to ignore the stated rules for any activity by a parent, or an adult who is chosen by the community to be responsible for teaching them accepted societal values, the likely hood of them responding in similar fashion is highly likely. I wonder how many of them are processing this adult behavior and thinking it’s okay to bend the rules on test taking or who knows what else. This sir, appears to be a prime example of immediate self gratification clouding your judgement, while providing a genuine disservice to the community, the students, and the school district you have been hired to represent. I would hope my comments will cause you to pause and have some sort of reflection and/or moral thoughts on what your behavior as a community leader is teaching the youth under your charge. I fully expect responses to this comment will clearly speak for themselves, one way or another.

“don’t have a grandson with a dog collar”
Gwyn, I agree that posting that would just add fuel to the fire. Integrity is something lacking so much these days and pointing it out to some folks just makes it worse as they just use the excuse that everyone else is doing it.

01/27/2012 at 3:54 pm #1955325I agree that posting that message to the comments page would cause a flurry of juvenile responses. However, Dick may want to think about sending it directly to Mr. Steele via email. [email protected]
I know he didn’t choose his e-mail address, but it is kind of funny that it is “steeler” 😆All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
