cap kal,
I would vote that to qualify for the state cache, a cacher would need to either find at least one cache in each county, or have hidden a cache in a county.
I don’t believe that we need to worry about a bunch of moderate to poor caches suddenly poping up all over as a result of my suggestion, it is obviously easier to go find an existing cache in any given county than to go hide one just to qualify.
Comments?

07/01/2002 at 7:13 pm #1744965Well here was my thinking on the matter. If it counts to hide a cache in the county then there is indeed no need to wait until every county has a cache. When someone hits a county that does not have a cache in it they simply hide one there. I agree with cache cows that it probably won’t lessen the quality of the caches placed since it is much harder and more time consuming to place a cache then it is to find one.
As far as Menominee county goes, I’m not touching it even if the internet does say it is a real county. I might consider a virtual but I don’t know if anyone could get permission from the reservation to actually hide one there. I worked with the forest service on the reservation for awhile and everywhere we went we had to have an escort because we weren’t part of the nation and therefore weren’t allowed to walk in the woods alone. I do think there are a few places open to the public.07/02/2002 at 2:27 am #1744966quote:

Everyone before him can’t apply for the state-wide cache until then as that last county is still missing a cache.
For accuracy, I’d still like to see Menominee included, even if its just a virtual in one of the public areas. Perhaps someone can check it out and see what can be created.

It would mean that if someone needed to cache a county without a cache in it yet then in order to do that they would have to place a cache in that county. So of course once someone has cached every county there would be a cache in every county because they would have put caches in the counties that did not have one. I don’t know if that explained anything.
Of course I’m fine with waiting for every county to get a cache.
07/02/2002 at 5:18 am #1744968Is there a web designer in the group that can create a map similar to what the reserveamerica.com use to have for state parks? This map would show the counties of Wisconsin and flags or pins at the locations of caches in that county. Then the flags or pins would link you to the geocache posting on geocaching.com to get the information needed for planning your trip. This would also need someone available to update the map as new geocaches are posted. Also, a link to a document listing the counties as a check off list would be helpful.
Count me in on this challange.
07/02/2002 at 3:27 pm #1744969Cap Kal, I get exactly what you are saying now, thanks!
Caesaria, there is a link to a Wisconsin geocache map on the main WGA page (go back to the main page and its on the left side of the fake topomap menu). This map is done by Buxley and is updated daily. Clicking on a dot will take you to the cache details page. But unfortunatly, it does not have county lines on it

I’ve can grab all the pertinent information for the caches (name, coords, creator, etc.) and have a county boundaries map data set… now I just have to come up with code to do the calculations.
In the future, we could plot the caches on county maps. We could also automatically determine how many counties people have finds in.
Right now, the best way to determine what caches are in which counties is to use the maps on geocaching.com. They aren’t as nice as the Buxley maps, but the county lines are visible when zoomed out. Click here for a Wisconsin map with all the county names.
07/26/2002 at 4:49 pm #1744971I just added a cache in Chippewa county (although some of the legs are in Eau Claire County.) The final cache is in Chippewa County.

08/09/2002 at 4:29 am #1744972I’ve just placed the first geocache in Richland County. Richland Center Towers takes you up a hill that overlooks the city of Richland Center.
I’ve also scouted a possible cache location in Pepin County and hopefully I’ll be able to place a cache there in September. We’re getting closer to our goal…

08/13/2002 at 9:46 am #1744973I just started a Travel Bug named Nuttah – The Circus Elephant, his goal is to visit every COUNTY in WISCONSIN.. please help him out on his journey by placing him in a cache in a new county.
~The Lil Otter08/18/2002 at 2:09 pm #1744974I got one placed in Price county this week. Click here for the details http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=32898
08/21/2002 at 12:50 pm #1744975It’s a little hard to read because of scaling, but here’s a map that sort of shows what counties are covered.
