I’ve just discovered Plaxo.com from Ken Braband. In short, it ROCKS! (FYI you don’t need Outlook for it to work)
It’s an online and/or Outlook based (synchronizable) contact database that keeps you in touch with business/friends/family by updating those constantly changing emails and phone numbers. You can also use its calendar and “to do” functions, etc.
I have have been brainstorming quite a bit on how to have a “directory” of sorts on geocachers’ info, with their permission. It’s nice to be able to help someone out who calls that needs help, additional hints on our caches, and vice versa. I think something like this might be the answer.
This also might help with the whole “disabled or broken” cache issue. If I have What’s Next’s number I can call them and say, Hey, I’m going to be in the area of XXXX cache, want me to fix it? There are tons of possibilities.
Of course there is the issue of if someone wants their number shared in a network or not and privacy.
Is anyone willing to register on Plaxo for this type of information sharing? Then we could email each other through Gc.com for those people’s info we want, and have full control of whether they get it or not.
Or…
Is there away to have a contact db on WGA that has a request/grant permission/deny system?
Just throwing out ideas and checking interest in this.
In any case, before replying try out Plaxo (I don’t work for or own stock) for your personal use so you can make a judgement on how it works or could work in our circle.
