when I go to the geocache map,it show the map and cache dots but at the bottom of the page an error comes up and wont let me pick a cache.
Microsoft VBScript runtime error ‘800a0046’
Permission denied
/map/maplib.asp, line 191
07/13/2007 at 4:53 am #1876965About a half dozen members have emailed me about the same error. I had to explain to them that we only link to the map on geocaching.com… it is not something the WGA put together.
I know at least two of these people contacted geocaching.com (this was a couple weeks ago) obviously with no luck. If they aren’t going to maintain the maps, the least they can do is take them down so people don’t get frustrated…
Your best bet is to use the newer (and cooler) Geocaching Google maps, like this:
07/13/2007 at 11:30 pm #1876966Thanks for the link, Jeremy!! I was unaware of this map for Wisconsin caches. Not paying close enough attention, I guess.
07/16/2007 at 12:16 pm #1876967The Google maps would be even cooler if they toggled your finds and also showed archived caches (similar to what the Geocaching maps do). I’ve also have limited success in toggling caches to a bookmark list. Sometimes it adds the cache and sometimes it takes it away.
07/18/2007 at 3:01 pm #1876968I’ve tried the new map and found it awkward to use. I miss the old one!
07/18/2007 at 5:42 pm #1876969No reason to miss the old one, it’s still there. You have to click on the link Geocaching.com Maps under For Online Maps…
07/20/2007 at 1:10 pm #1876970Sorry to be an idiot, but I can’t find that link. Can you give me another hint as to where it is? Thanks

I think you are referring to the old Buxley’s Site, which can be found at
http://www.brillig.com/geocaching
This site depended on regular scavenging of the geocaching.com site, which is against their terms of service. In January of 2006, the Buxley’s site was cut off from the geocaching.com website. I suspect that the “new” maps are the result of people complaining loudly about the loss of the Buxley’s site. This has happened to most other sites which depend on grabbing lots of data from the website.
07/23/2007 at 12:16 pm #1876972Now after Dave mentioned the Buxley maps, I’m not sure which “old” maps you’re referring to. The geocaching map I was talking about is listed under the various online maps. This is right above the cache logs and looks like:
For online maps…
Geocaching.com Maps
Geocaching.com Google Map
Google Maps
MapQuest
Microsoft MapPoint
Yahoo Maps
Rand McNally
Topozone
Terraserver
Tiger Census Maps -
