🙄 I know I am going to get verbally abused for this 🙄
I guess that is why we have never attended a event in Wisconsin, We are not smiley hounds.
Once you’ve attended one, you’ll know why people want to log them! They are all significant caches, though temporary in nature. From time to time I’m the recipient of emails from out-of-state’rs who don’t like the practice. I always tell them to come to an event THEN decide
Bottom line – We’ve allowed it since the very first WGA event. As long as GC.com allows the option, we’ll allow people to decide for themselves.
I personally quit logging event temps a while back.
09/10/2006 at 12:42 pm #1765355You could do what we did and host (or attend) an event without temps. Many people attended our event and it was quite a nice afternoon. Or, you could attend an event with temps and just do regular caches in the area (we did that yesterday).
It would be interesting to have a second Wisconsin stats list for the folks that don’t log temps. Perhaps that would ease the concern? As our numbers rise it is kind of fun to see where we are in the Wisconsin stats. But, with folks logging such high numbers of temps at events it skews the meaning of those stats.
Or, perhaps just remove all stats links from the WGA site completely? If it really isn’t about the numbers- take the numbers away.

Thank you! There have been a few of us saying that for so long! Finally someone else said it!

Granted you are seeing allot of nice areas in nice park, but I would rather visit the great areas all over our state, Geocaching has shown us things that we would have never seen without this great sport. .
I can see you point, but I can neither agree nor disagree. It is up to each cachers.
………..but not ALL events have caches in one park!! This weekend I had people seeing areas all over the Marinette Co. I put on over 85 miles while placing them, while those cachers finding them put on a lot more, as they could hit other perm caches along their travels.
Here’s my 2 cents:
Why celebrate a birthday??
why tell people the job you do or how much you make??
Why tell people the kind of house you live in?
Why tell people how many kids you have??
The grade you got on a test???
How far you drove to get to your vacation destination???Why….those are all about numbers too? Caching can fall right into that grouping too. And Honestly it only concerns some 37279 people around the world??
Lastly………..
Be proud of what YOU do and how you do it.
Don’t be concerned about the rest of the world.OK.. that was more like a buck 50’s worth. LOL

Don’t be concerned about the rest of the world. That statement could, and should apply to so many things around this world, besides geocaching.
I think I’ll get some T-shirts made up! 😆
