The same thing (finding a safe) just happened to another cacher a few days ago…they posted about it in this thread…you could post your story there as well…
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=94899The other day I was searching for a cache at night at the end of a dead end road. I see something black and red with my flashlight and go around to see what it was. It turned out to be a duffle bag which was zipped up. I could tell that there was something in it and curiosity got the best of me so I had to open it. Inside was a lock box which had been broken into filled with jewelry boxes, all full. There was another jewelry box with a bunch of necklaces and rings as well. Included in one of the boxes was a diamond engagement ring that looked to be about 2 karats! There was also a locket with the word “Mom” on the outside and photos of her and her children inside. I put the treasure in my Jeep, finished finding the cache, and headed off to the police station. Hopefully, they will reunite the woman with her stolen jewelry.

An overzealous cop with 2 younger troopers who rolled their eyes and split when they found out what I was doing, leaving me with the grumpy old foggy who was intent in giving me the fear-of-God treatment in case I ever decided to cache in Appleton again.

Well that worked pretty well, didn’t it!

Actually, it did. I don’t linger for more than a few minutes to place new caches and I’m always looking over my shoulder….
