This could be something different but also a portal to guide people here to where all the cool people truly hang out.
to your point on this… you could pick one thread a week to “highlight” .. ie – come check out the discussion in the WGA forums this week on “blah, blah, blah” (mimicking my 4 yr old.)
There are some good convos about topics of interest that one might miss or one could learn from.
the other thing to consider is that it may not necessarily be about the content on the fb page, but the continued presence. I have geocaching friends that are WGA members, but they don’t really care to come in the forums. They do want to keep up with WGA news though and they are WGA fb followers. Just having the logo scroll consistently across one’s fb page, plants the seed and continued interest.
02/09/2012 at 6:23 pm #1942004and I find twitter useless, so I won’t comment on that 😉
02/09/2012 at 7:13 pm #1942005Look at that. I didn’t realize I had to subscribe to the FB WGA page. I just thought I couldn’t get updates without actually going to the page and looking. I thought it worked differently than normal friends.
But then again I only pop into FB once every 4-6 weeks and do a quick look for a few particular things. I guess this is kind of a matter of preference (FB vs. website)
02/09/2012 at 7:56 pm #1942006CJ, make sure you get the Non-profit page with the WGA logo/colored WI NOT the “Open Group” which is independant and not affiliated.

02/11/2012 at 3:15 am #1942008Might FB obsolete the forums, for the majority? Anyone recall BB’s?
02/11/2012 at 4:32 am #1942009I’m a frequent FB user but I never go to the WGA page there. There is nothing I get there that I cannot get here. Not a criticism, just a fact of my usage habits.

I doubt it. A FB page seems to end up being a single, long runnnig thread with no real topic.
I really think that forums in general will be around long after FB is gone.

(and there’s the setup………….)
Makes sense. Then that helps explain the drop in the WGA’s Google Search Ranking for ‘Geocaching Useless Drivel’! 🙂

Bump bumpok – my two cents, since your begging(I mean asking)
Some of this is redundancy with the weekly Groundspeak, but things that would help me, but could create extra work for you:
Events by region – I don’t typically go look for them, but they prompt me to think about them when I see them in my area. The newsletter has them all lumped together and sometimes is a pretty long list.
Maybe highlight a Series Cache from around the state – there are tons of them – some are elaborate, some are P&G’s -highlight each type at some point.
Highlight a puzzle cache each week.
Picture of the week?
Any interesting articles that link to how to get better use of your “tools” – gpsr, etc.
If you created a weekly schedule, with a topic for each day that you intend to post, you could narrow down your focus so you’re not running looking for ideas.
I enjoyed the satire/humor this week as well.
Again, it may be about presence and not content. How many members in the WGA are actively logging into the forums? How many Wisconsinites are geocachers? (and perhaps log into neither!)
These are just some popcorn ideas that I came up with. Some cachers will need none of this; some will enjoy it. It’s free, you’re doing it on your own time, and it’s easily deletable (sp) if a person chooses not to read. No harm done either way!
02/11/2012 at 7:31 pm #1942013great ideas. Look for them to show up soon

02/11/2012 at 9:06 pm #1942014A bunch of great ideas, The FB page is a good way to get info out there, naturally if you frequent the forums it will be “old” info, but it might spark some interest to those who do not hit the forums often.
