Does anyone know the GC number for this event? The WGA page says its registration link is not working and to register on GC.com. Several keyword searches have not led me to the page. Thanks.
Sorry for any confusion! The GC page was published today.
I still don’t know why the WGA registration page didn’t function. maybe it was because I initially submitted as a link only? Anyway, we (the BOD) were going to for-go using the WGA registration page anyway for the picnic. Please follow the instructions regarding number of attending, what you are bringing and if you need nametags (include team and name).as the plans for the picnic develop, there will be updates to the GC and WGA event pages.

My Birthday, but unfortunately this is also the opening day of bow season and there are priorities.

Well, CodeJunkie, throwing a big surprise birthday party for you at the picnic would have been a priority, too, but since you won’t be there…
Actually, Mr. Sandlanders gave up Opening Day last year to go to the picnic at Lake Wissota with me. I have given him the option of leaving the picnic early this year (or not going at all ), since it is so close to us, but he thinks he’ll be at the picnic all day. However, he is willing to put you on one of his favorite hunting spots around 3-4 in the afternoon, should you want to hunt at home in the morning and then come to the picnic for a little bit.
Warning: Mr. S has not gotten a deer in close to twenty years.

06/13/2010 at 1:46 am #1926559Just informed that the staircase to the top of the Roche-a-Cri mound have been closed. Apparently they have been deemed unsafe and will be replaced hopefully by next year some time.

06/13/2010 at 2:11 am #1926560BUT…… There are still plenty of caches to find in the park, with more to come
AND there are plenty of caches within short driving distances from the park
AND there are still miles of great trails to walk on
AND there will be plenty of good food
AND plenty of good company (just experienced that there today)
AND the ticks are not invitedAND the campground will be open if you care to come for more than the day
AND there are motels close by if you don’t like camping
AND the Dells and all of those delights are only a half hour away
AND there is a casino 45 minutes to the northwest
AND there is a casino 45 minutes to the southAND you know you want to come!

Is this confirmed? If so the EarthCaches need to be looked at requirement-wise…

From what I’m told, that is unrelated to the stairs….Lagrac has his own reasons…but you are right that is the only EC requiring (optionally) to go to the top.
06/13/2010 at 11:56 pm #1926564I do hope they will at least bring the panoramic display down to ground level so that people can have some idea of the view from up top.

The kiosk at ground level was always meant to be a display for those who could not make it up the stairway. That has not been kept up lately, but I was just talking to park assistant Kelly yesterday, and she showed me some framed photos they were going to put there. Those were of the stairway itself, but she wants to get that display up and running again, especially now, so I’m expecting something will be in place by the picnic. They might have the panoramic display down, too.
But then I can always share the photos I have taken over the years… 😉
(Kind of like the old “Want to look at the slides from our vacation?” bit. 🙄 )06/19/2010 at 8:01 pm #1926566I talked with Kelly today.
she wanted to let us know that if we have a lot of folks camping, RAC will open the second set of campsites for us. The Friends group will also assist with shuttling people from the winter parking area as there is not a huge amount of available parking. The kiosk should be updated by July 4th with photos of the view from above. The Stairway is CLOSED.
Also a note that is pretty standard in the State parks system.
Dogs are not allowed at the shelter or on the nature trail. They are welcome in all other areas of the park.Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.

We are a little concerned about getting a spot because we were told that only half of the sites are available at that time of the year and they don’t accept reservations after Labor Day. Any updates on the campsites would be helpful.

06/19/2010 at 8:14 pm #1926569Sorry if that wasn’t clear about the campsites.
RAC usually only has 25 sites available this time of year. If we have a large number of campers, they will open the second loop of sites bringing that total site number up to 41. I have never camped there and never in September so I will defer to others to see if there is ever an issue with not having room. If needed I can call Kelly back for more info.Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.
