I have two small kids who sometimes accompany me when I go Geocaching. I have started adding a “Family Friendly” logo to some of my cache pages, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=66740&Nocache=0.7055475 with a link to a web page saying what makes up a family friendly cache. I am looking for input as to what else I might include on that page: http://www.ticon.net/~bretgeo/family_friendly.htm.. I also have some HTML code that anybody is welcome to use if they want to include it in their cache descriptions.

tb06/08/2003 at 2:13 pm #1746652Thanks for placing these caches. We are always looking for caches to do as a family. With more quality caches (harder, longer and less family friendly) and less quantity caches (easier 1 stars for the kids) it’s getting harder to bring the kids along. I hope we can place a few with this in mind.
06/08/2003 at 3:02 pm #1746653Please, if anybody has anything to add (or remove) from the list of what makes a good family-friendly geocache, please post it here and I will update the web page. (I’ll also check the spelling before I upload it the next time.
06/08/2003 at 4:02 pm #1746654I like the idea. I think it is something that geocaching.com needs to incorporate along with other ”friendly” items. The list could include, wheelchair friendly, dog friendly and so on. Such has been suggested in the past but never acted upon. Until that time, I think yours is a good idea for all who can find the code and know how to implement it.

Waukesha06/08/2003 at 7:14 pm #1746655A great idea. I’ve spent alot of time poring over topo maps to find out if the cache is suitable for my two and five year old sons. This would be a fantastic addition!!
I get the boys excited about going on a geocache hunt by telling them we’re going on a treasure hunt. The idea of kid friendly items in the cache works well for us.
06/08/2003 at 8:51 pm #1746656Take a look at “The Selector” on the Texas Geocaching Association’s page….
http://www.texasgeocaching.com/selector.aspI’m not saying copy it… It’s just full of ideas!

Waukesha06/13/2003 at 2:13 am #1746659I’ve started putting recommended caches on the “Family Friendly” page. If you know of one, please let me know. Either post it here, or E-mail me through Geocaching.com.
04/22/2004 at 3:24 am #1746660We just signed up for a new internet service provider (Road Runner Rocks!), so links to the “Family Friendly” cache page soon will not work. I did not have many people report back to me that they were using the logo, so I couldn’t include their cache pages. I also have noticed that a number of cachers are using the logo, which is perfectly fine by me.
Anyhoo, the family friendly page will be out of service shortly, and the logo has been moved to geocaching.com. The new link for the family friendly logo is: http://img.groundspeak.com/cache/fa017a5d-d268-46db-8441-a138d24bb425.jpg

04/22/2004 at 4:03 am #1746661Thank you! My niece Messa, age 7, loves to geocache but only has so much patience. As we select caches, she definitely looks for the logo and reads to see how much “bushwacking” the description talks about. This would be a definite help.
04/22/2004 at 4:09 am #1746662You can add our cache “Our Junk, Your Treasure” #GCJ4RN to your list of Kid Friendly caches.
