Something that I wish I had readily available when I travel with my family is a list of caches in an area that will be easy to do with little kids. There very well may be such lists out there (as I haven’t looked real hard) but I thought I would put one together for the Wausau area in case it could benefit someone else who was coming to town with their family and wondering which caches would be good.
I have a public bookmark list I’ve compiled and it’s still a work in progress but good enough to post. I hope it can help someone. Maybe if there are other similar bookmarks for other areas, someone can post them in this thread as well. That would be neat.

07/15/2009 at 7:40 pm #1910884I’ve started a “KFC in the Valley” bookmark. It’s VERY short right now, I need to go back and add hides that I found previous to creating it.

07/15/2009 at 7:41 pm #1910885I ‘m not going to make a list, but if anyone ever comes to the Sussex/Lisbon area in Waukesha County I have about 40 family friendly hides there. Four of them are in the Puzzles for Kids series that use playground equipment to determine final coosdinates. This will give the kids some playground time in between caches and hopefully you’ll be able to get them to stay at it a little longer as a result. Our grandchildren got us into geocaching 2-1/2 years ago so our hides for the most part are to be family friendly. Always feel free to e-mail me for recommendations.

I still have a DNF on one of your KFC hides that I have to rectify. It should be easy for me. I am a little kid at heart.
07/16/2009 at 2:59 am #1910887I’ve started a “KFC in the Valley” bookmark.
I actually thought about creating a bookmark list related to this recently when I did a very family friendly new multi-cache at plamann… great minds thinks alike!
Make sure you add the eternal question at plamann to your list. It’s a great KFC even if it’s not labeled as such.
You might want to name your bookmark list “Family Friendly caches of the valley” rather than KFC so people don’t have to guess what the list is about when they see it on a cache page… just a suggestion as not everyone knows what KFC means. They might think it’s a list of caches behind chicken shops… π
I think this is a great idea by the way!!

The first time I saw this while caching was right about lunch time, so I figured, what perfect timing. A quick cache and in for lunch. I got out to the cache site and couldn’t figure out where the KFC was. In fact there was nothing around. Just a park. That was a big disappointment when I was so hungry.

Furfool, thank you for the laugh. I needed that after a long day at work.
07/17/2009 at 11:49 pm #1910890Sweech, look at my Must See Caches in the Appleton Area for a lot of KFCs.
You can find this bookmark on the WGA listings.

First off, I have to thank Marc for the note he posted to add the KFC tag to my cache. I usually lurk on the forum and have read this thread, but I didn’t think to ask about adding the tag until prompted.
When I placed the cache, I did it with the idea of it being a kid friendly cache in mind but I thought the KFC tag was “reserved” for owners who were placing caches in a KFC series. I didn’t realize the KFC tag could be used by anyone placing a kid/family friendly cache. If that’s cool, then I’ll change the title this weekend to include the KFC tag.
But, as anyone who has found The Eternal Question (GC1VHGE)
knows….maybe KFC does stand for a certain restaurant, in this case π―Bruce
07/18/2009 at 12:38 pm #1910892Hey Bruce, if you want some background on the KFC designator and where it all started check out this thread:
Your eternal question cache is completely what the original KFC idea was meant to be… and yes it might just be a little too related to the chicken place.. π
Indeed, anyone can place the KFC designator on their cache. I also place the “blurb” on mine that Team Hemi had originally thought up but many just put KFC in the cache name somewhere. Mine are at the beginning and some put it at the end.
Then you have seldom|seen who makes “PUC” which are Parent Un-Friendly Caches.. he always has to be different..
I am glad you poked your head into this thread and the forums!! π

I DID change the name to “Family Friendly caches in the Valley” – thanks for the suggestion.
And, when I went to add Eternal Question the owner had already changed the name to reflect its KFC status. π
