I realize that Park ‘n’ Grabs help beef up the number of finds for a cacher. I also notice that cachers looking for a milestone cache will seek out a memorable hide.

With that in mind, I was wondering what type of cache hides are in a CO’s Top Ten Favorites?

If you click on the Blue Ribbon icon, your caches sort from most to least Favorite Points.

In our Top Ten cache hides, we have 4 Unkowns, 4 Multicaches, and 2 Traditionals.

Do any other COs notice this type of ratio of their best cache hides being non-traditional?

      Just wondering…

No, but then I only have two non-traditionals; both field-solve puzzles. My #1 favorited cache is a 1/1 park and grab, magnetic key holder on a picnic table. It gets favorite points because of where it is, and how you get there.

My second is one of the puzzles. I think it gets points because of the nice walk that you take to find the coords.

#3 get its points because of the container.

4, 5, 7 & 10 are part of a series in the Mead Wildlife Area that takes you on some nice walks into areas that most people seldom go. (#4 being a nice walk when the creek is frozen, otherwise it is a nice paddle or a hike into hell).

6, 8 & 9 are popular because of what you see when you get there.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

Here are my top 10 hides, only 2 are traditionals.

Six of our top ten are traditionals, four of which could be considered different container types. Three unknowns (two of them in-the-field solves), one multi.

However, after that come eight straight non-traditionals: three LBH, three unknowns, and two multis.

We have 6 unknowns , 2 traditional and 2 multis in our top 10. The traditionals and multis are part of a series. All of our active hides have at least 1 fav point! We hide what we like to find.

I was really surprised when I looked at ours.
7 mystery caches and 3 traditionals
        unfortunately 3 have been archived
if we go with active hides it is
8 mystery caches and 2 traditionals
all that I could conclude from this is that we are spending way too much time with froggerz

All my 8 caches are traditionals. Just 4 favorite points total for all of them. All are easy hides.

However…I do get quality logs so that’s what I care about as all of my caches have either a good view of the scenery or involves a walk.

I don’t care if I don’t get favorite points so as long as I get logs like “Nice view of the bay. Thanks for bringing me out here.”

That- to me – is worth more than a favorite point.

Mr. G hides caches we like to find too!!!

7 mystery, 1 earthcache & 2 traditionals; sidenote both traditionals are evil monkeys 😈 of course it’s not all that surprising since most of my hides are ?s 8)

Three virtuals, three earth caches, two unknowns, one multi, one traditional.

That said…some of our most favorites have been the “lowly” traditional. Hikes for miles in beautiful areas to find a box at the end are still the pinnacle of a great cache for us.

My top 17 are all non-traditionals before finally getting to a traditional.
3 of my top 4 are (were) Wherigo caches.
7 of my top 15 were challenge caches.
4 of my top 15 were multicaches.
        I don’t like the number 10, so I used 15. 😯

I worked out an alternative stat for our hides. I checked on the percentage listed for each cache, and our #1 in favorite points had only 6% of the premium finders favoriting it. All of our traditionals with the most favorite points dropped out of the Top Ten when this stat was viewed, and when looking at hides that had at least 15 finds, we have an in-the-field puzzle getting a 53% favorite rating for our new #1. The rest of the top ten are seven unknowns, one LBH, and one multi. All score over 25% of premium finders favoriting them.

There are many different ways to look at statistics.

(BTW, “Granny Squares” scored in both Top Ten lists for us. Cachers <3 "GS"!)

I have to agree with Mrs. Sandlander. I look at the favorite points in that way also. My number one hide has a 44% favorite ratio on a Traditional, a fun unusual hide that surprised me on its enjoyment factor but the other with a high percentage is a Multi with a 38% favorite ratio, 21 total finds.

I do have a couple with a 100% ratio yet they have only been found once 8) Thats what happens when you place caches wayyyy out of the way.

Here’s our top ten. Five traditionals, four multis, and one puzzle. All of our caches have favorites except one; the one without is a puzzle cache with a view of a golf course. Similar to what Froggerz mentioned, we try to place caches that others will like and potentially mark as favorites.

Interesting question Jim, out of our 236 hides, 9 are traditional, 1 puzzle, perhaps the best part is looking at % wise, we find people favorite finding our most difficult caches, :arrow2: over 50% for one with 24 finds and 36 DNF’s. We tend to dole out favorites for difficult finds, as well as caches that make you actually do something to get a smiley, AKA Room To Roam, Expedition, and Wet Maze 3,000 :tux: is on our list for this year.
