I’m looking for somewhere new to camp. Tell me… what is your favorite state park? I am looking for somewhere with swimming for the kids, too.

    Hartman Creek – Waupaca.
    Very nice kid friendly park.
We were just there with our three grand kids, 15, 13 and 10.
    Good fishing, canoes to rent.
    Paved bike trail to beach.
Nice sand beach and good swimming.
Over 30 caches in the park.

Peninsula park has it all. Swimming, hiking, miles and miles of bike trails. Close enough to town if you need a diversion for the day–take a bike ride and get ice cream. Protected inlet for canoeing/kayaking, along with watercraft rental if you don’t own them. Paddle out to Horseshoe Island and find the cache (and a letterbox 😉 ). Catch a play in the outdoor theatre at night right in the park, or take a short drive to the Skyway drive-in. Can’t go wrong.

On the Left Side of the Road...

Council Grounds State Park is also a great park. Nice beach, great fishing, lots a caches, right next to Merrill, WI. Not as crowded as many other state parks.

Letterbox? Letterbox? Now we’ll need to go back out there, which is a good thing! Peninsula has always been our favorite. And the surrounding area is loaded with a lot of other adventures! And go-karts! 🙂 🙂

I think Devil’s lake would be my favorite over Peninsula. Hiking, climbing, and a nicer beach than Peninsula. Not as nice for biking though! Short drive to Baraboo for the circus, or to the Dells for the Ducks, Go-carts(for Huffinpuffin), or numerous other activities.

Most, but not all of my camping is done at Hartmann Creek, Peninsula, or Devil’s lake.

Lake Kegonsa – kind of a hidden gem, never seen it busy as everyone goes to Gov Dodge or Devils Lake. Nice trails, caches, plus it’s close to home for us.

Ditto for Hartman Creek. Just got back today from four great days there. Fishing, swimming, hiking, biking… tons of caching!
