LOL. I was dropping off a Jeep at a fellow cachers (OK before the stampede begins, it was a yellow Jeep) house as I forgot to put in my new cache as a first find award, and in conversations with him via email he noted that he was awaiting approval of his first cache. I saw a park near his home and took a chance. Well in my defense he did ask for my opinion of the cache (granted he meant once it was listed he wanted my opinion)…but I digress. I looked in the obvious cacher hidy holes and found his multi and the final. As of yet it still isn’t listed. I didn’t sign the log cuz it wouldn’t be fair to do so prior to its listing but just you wait until it lists and I’m there for the official first find.

Way to go! Now, someone is bound to think you were cheating, but that’s just their opinion.

Could make for a whole new category of finds. Someone annoucnes they have a cache in line for approval, and cachers go out looking for it beforehand. Interesting concept.

Hee Hee. I waited until it went live before going back out to sign the log. Well there is a fine line to the cheating aspect; maybe I was just looking at this cool park for a hide of my own and I found a funny card with coords on it and maybe I followed them to the end. I just took a stab in the dark that he would place a cache in this park; lucky guess.

I have found letterbox caches too by just wandering around in parks. As you are well aware you just never know what you will find wandering around. I think that’s why we go in the first place.

Funny you should mention letterboxes. I found a letterbox while searching for Crash Cache back in late March, about 150 feet south of the original coordinates (before it was moved to a drier place). I can’t find a listing for that one, but I did sign the logbook (I don’t have a stamp pad).

The listing comes up as a Wisconsin Mystery letterbox rather than by location. It’s one of the Wizard of OZ hides. I think there is one or two more in the park.

    What is Letterboxing?

Letterboxing is an intriguing mix of treasure hunting, art, navigation, and exploring interesting, scenic, and sometimes remote places. It takes the ancient custom of placing a rock on a cairn upon reaching the summit of a mountain to an artform. It started when a gentleman simply left his calling card in a bottle by a remote pool on the moors of Dartmoor, in England.

Here’s the basic idea: Someone hides a waterproof box somewhere (in a beautiful, interesting, or remote location) containing at least a logbook and a carved rubber stamp, and perhaps other goodies. The hider then usually writes directions to the box (called “clues” or “the map”), which can be straightforward, cryptic, or any degree in between. Often the clues involve map coordinates or compass bearings from landmarks, but they don’t have to. Selecting a location and writing the clues is one aspect of the art.

Once the clues are written, hunters in possession of the clues attempt to find the box. In addition to the clue and any maps or tools needed to solve it, the hunter should carry at least a pencil, his personal rubber stamp, an inkpad, and his personal logbook. When the hunter successfully deciphers the clue and finds the box, he stamps the logbook in the box with his personal stamp, and stamps his personal logbook with the box’s stamp. The box’s logbook keeps a record of all its visitors, and the hunters keep a record of all the boxes they have found, in their personal logbooks.

Still off the main subject..thanks for the info..now I at least know which letterbox I found (I have about 6 now).

Back to the main subject..I think you may have some opposition to this, but I’d consider you the first finder of that cache. I don’t have a problem with that.
