First To Find Awards

I’m getting ready to place my first cache. Do all caches have some sort of First To Find prizes? What types of things? What would be the dollar value of a First To Find thing? What types of First To Find stuff have you gotten?

Actually, in my experience, most caches do not have FTF prizes. I have left a couple in mine, one being a blue “first place” ribbon, and the other being a geo-coin. I was thinking that a gift certificate to a fine local eatery would be a good one. It will be interesting to hear what others think about the subject.

For me, the best prize is the fun in trying to be FTF. I have only done it a few times, but I enjoyed the hunt that much more knowing I may be the first cacher in an area.

I personally agree with cathunter…It’s so exciting to be FTF that the prize, if any, tends to be forgotten.

I was thinking of a blue ribbon type thing myself — or a gift certificate to somewhere local. I know some folks put very elaborate stuff in caches for first finders (wasn’t sure if Wisconsin did this.)

But just to be the first to find a cache would be cool for me.

I was only FTF once. And I didn’t EXPECT to find anything. There was no FTF prize in that cache so I was not disappointed. I, personally, think the FTF is prize enough. If you want to put something nice in it, super! I’d be happy to accept it if I were FTF. But I would not EXPECT to find anything nicer than decent trade items.
In fact, I think the nicest thing about being FTF is that you actually get to pick from nice trade items before they’re picked over and replaced by … um …. other stuff.

In one of the caches we hid, we put in a copy of our favorite Wisconsin Waterfalls book. We knew it was something WE’D enjoy finding.

I found my FTF this morning:>

I decided that when I place a new cache I will make sure that there is some sort of FTF prize in it. I will value it according to how difficult the caceh was. My first two had a Where’s George $5 in them for FTF. It’s always nice to find real treasure every once in awhile!

I have found a FTF award for my cache — it’s sort of silly and cheesy, but it makes me smile. Plus, the FTF gets the chance to select from a fabulous assortment of items I am putting in the cache!!
