I have a few ideas for functionality that could be available in the forums section of this site that I hope may be considered for the future.
1) Ability to ignore a thread – activity on this thread would not create an activity alert on the thread or the topic (leave the icon white). Possibly, the thread may not even display to the specific logged in user who chose to ignore the thread.
2) Ability to watch a thread – similar to watching a cache, whenever a thread is replied to, you’d get an e-mail. This would be irrelevant to whether or not you authored a thread or replied in that thread.
3) Role Indicators with Avitars – some kind of indicator (icon, color, etc) that would indicate if the poster has a special role, like Board Member, cache reviewer, caching MVP, etc… which brings me to my next idea
4) Not just for these forums, I think this would be cool on geocaching.com to. A rating / color type system to indicate how many caches the person/team has found. This would be similar to feedback points on ebay if you are familiar with that.. The categories may be something like <100, 100-500, 500-1000, 1000-5000, 5000-10000, 10k +.. etc... I don't know what that breakdown would be. The rank names could be something like - magnetic nano, pill bottle micro, camoed Peanut butter jar, mayonnaise container, ammo can, silver ammo can, gold ammo can.... I'm sure some other creative ideas could be interjected here :-)
5) Member dispersion map – A Wisconsin map dotted with the location of each of WGA members. Just for fun to see what parts of the state are being represented here and where new members are coming from, etc. It doesn’t have to reveal the identity of the person/user the dot represents, only a location. This would also be fun to use if I know I’m going to be caching in a particular town, I know how many WGA members live in that town. The map could also feature the location of events coming up.
That’s all I got for now. Thanks for reading 🙂
