A friend told me about this place, and we had a chance to drop by yesterday. There are 26 in the chain (33 by the end of this year), and the closest to our home is in Schaumburg, IL, just south of Woodfield mall (its in the Streets of Woodfield area).
Its called Galyans, and their website is http://www.galyans.com . The place is two stories tall!

This left image is a bit old. The right is current. That’s Woodfield to the North, and RT53 running along the right side. And yes, that whole top section is Gaylans! The long North/South rectangle sitting on the roof is a skylight that runs the width of the store over the two story atrium. The climbing walls are near the center of that area. The smaller dome on the east side of the store is the entrance.

Yup. Saw it earlier when we looked at the site. Nice tall wall. Canoe and camping stuff too. How are their prices?

03/28/2002 at 4:40 pm #1734967Umm… hmmm… gee, I didn’t look

We bought one of those collapsable chairs that are all the rage, but this one is a large rocking chair. It cost $19. Also bought the book ‘Not Without Peril’ (150 years of climbing history of Mt. Washington) for my dad, it was $14.95. Picked up some cool aluminum whistles with tiny compasses for trading items, $4 each I think. Arn got a sport vest for $19. Saw giant buckets of paintballs, 1,500 for $30. We looked at all sorts of stuff, but didn’t do any price comparisons. Sorry about the lack of information
