Well, more info. regarding our previous post has come to light, providing a logical explanation for the missing signatures on our cache. There is a youth camp very near where the final is hidden and a previous finder described the container he found, which is different from the actual container. It seems the camp ran some geocaching activity and hid a container near our final, which is the source of the confusion. I guess this explains why the proximity rule is a good idea. Anyway, the mystery of the missing signatures seems to be solved. Finders whose logs were deleted have been asked to relog their finds.
I’m glad I got a discussion going and got great insights from a lot of people. I was going to let the “saw the cache, but couldn’t get to the cache” logs lie until the last two logs for Der Schlechte Affe Geht Deutscher!

I have found this one and while the elevation change is a challenge, it is readily attainable and even more so, you are warned up front that geocaching is an inherently dangerous sport, so don’t log it as a find just because you think it is too dangerous to reach!
Now I’m going to delete the logs because, “C’mon, you HAVE to get it to log it!” If you don’t want to/can’t do a higher terrain cache, then don’t try it.
Deep breath…Thank you for listening to my rant.
You know, I wasn’t going to comment on this until I saw the last post. I always give latitude for those with the “I forgot my pencil” excuse (although going without a pen is like going without a GPS), but I would draw the line when people “brag” that they didn’t actually touch the container. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have one member of your team sign the log for you, but if you need help (or a ladder or a rope), take it with you. BTW, I’ve hiked 2 miles to a cache to discover I left my pen in the car. I hiked back to the car, got a pen, hiked back and signed the log. This game isn’t that tough!
