lagrac suggested resident “experts” after I identified Sandhill Cranes for him and for Coastiegirl. Actually, if I remember correctly, Marc 5 digits is also a birder with a better life list than mine…and certainly more cemetery caches than we own.
What I wish we had was someone who’s really good with mushroom and fungi identification. Man, there are so many out there this fall and I just know some of them are good to eat! Other than morels, which are spring, I’m not trying them, though.
I know I found a few chanterelles while doing some temps at the picnic, because when I was in Switzerland a couple summers back, my hosts picked some as we hiked down from the mountain tops and I ate those. Yum! But I didn’t pick the ones at Wildcat.
Did you meet the Head Mistress of Team Roaming Pack at the Picnic? She knows fungi!! Didn’t you ever find her ‘Mile’ cache- Zuma one fun guy?
We did find that one, actually. Guess I was talking to her more about that darn cute new member of her pack!
The only ones I know are morels, Pheasant’s backs, and the giant puffballs. The later of which, should be popping up about now, or at least very soon.
So a Mushroom walks into the bar and the bartend says “Hey we don’t serve your type”
The mushroom replys ” WHAT ARN’T I A FUNGI !!!!!”
Thanks to Don Kingsbury for the joke!
