03/11/2003 at 8:15 pm #1720944I read the Geocachers channels on FRS Radios are 2 and alternate 12. Do any of you use these while hunting caches? That sounds like a cool way to meet other hunters in the area you are in. Some new ones even have GPS built in so you can do things like transmit your location to others! 03/11/2003 at 9:20 pm #1745277I’ve never used one on a “regular” hunt, but we have had lots of fun with them at our WGA events. It’s fun to hear other geocachers reporting their finds and heckling each other as you hike through the park on your own geoquest. 03/12/2003 at 3:27 am #1745278Ditto what Ken said. Maybe the WGA should endorse a specific channel and encourage people to bring them while caching. I’d be willing to take mine along. 03/12/2003 at 12:41 pm #1745279Trudy and I usually do take FRS and cell phone along. This is more for the event of some contingency than for keeping in touch with other cachers. Early on we had visions of picking up other cachers in the area, but when you consider the odds, it’s not likely. The range of an FRS is too limited to pick up anything outside your immediate area. At events, FRS can add significantly to the fun. On the trail, catching other cachers, it’s a shot in the dark. We will continue to take them along, tuned to channel 2. tb 03/12/2003 at 2:14 pm #1745280quote:

One of those times I did have my radio with me, but that was just to talk to my wife who was staying back with my then-infant son. Another was the first cache I ever found. And then there was that time I drove up behind a pair of cachers who had arrived just ahead of me. Man, was that traumatic… [This message has been edited by Cheesehead Dave (edited 03-12-2003).] 03/12/2003 at 7:40 pm #1745281quote:

Can you imagine how Trudy felt as she realized that someone was following us into the cemetery
